Gods and Demon Lords, how do you handle them?

Very interesting. I have a question, you have no generic outsiders in your game, do you use the same rule of thumb for most of the more powerful CR creatures in your world? I'm just wondering how you do high level campaigns, or if you play them at all for that matter. Do most of the...

Gods and Demon Lords, how do you handle them?

The Serge: First off gotta say I'm a big fan of your work at dicefreaks. I just recently downloaded The Gates of Hell about a week ago, and love it. The amount of detail you guys put into all the players in Hell is amazing. I definitely agree here with balancing their powers to make a...

Gods and Demon Lords, how do you handle them?

That is a very interesting way to do it, and I like it a lot. It does kinda make sense that powerful creatures like that would be worshipped. After all, Yeenoghu and the gnolls are a perfect example.

Gods and Demon Lords, how do you handle them?

I'm really not trying to troll here, I'm actually quite interested in what CRs you put the deities and demon lords in your campaign, and how you deal with the god's not smashing the demon lords/ archdevils? IMC I generally put the avatars of deities in the 20-25 CR range, and the planar lords...

    Yeenoghu writeup

So I have a few questions to all those versed in the Abyss. I'm trying to get a better idea of the problem. There are infinite (or 666) layers to the Abyss. Are there demon lords to each one? Maybe Balors are lords to their own layers, but simply aren't old enough or settled in enough to...

Do you prefer damage or "tactics" during combat?

I prefer tactics than pure damage, and while playing I often choose the feats and abilities that allow tactical options. For instance I rarely choose Weapon Specialization or Spell Focus, as I typically find feats that simply add modifiers as bland. I prefer to expand my options. Now on the...

    Arena Day

How about a Dwarven Barbarian/ Bear Warrior (CW)/ War Shaper (CW): He'd have the ability to create his own weapons with the war shaper levels, rage, immune to crits and stunning, +4 Str and Con, turn into a bear, and have up to +24 str (+20 for bear, +4 for War Shaper). Makes a fairly solid...

    D&D 4E Number of attacks and 4E

I've run 2 epic campaigns and the characters had 4+ attacks most of the time, yet still never ran into this problem. They could whip through their attacks in a matter of 10-20 seconds, even with a description of what they're doing. However, it could just be my players. The problem I run...

DCs for Knowledge checks about monsters too dang high

I always used the knowledge check for monsters as learning information about a monster you've never encountered or had heard about. If my character has fought a troll and had to deal with it's regeneration, he shouldn't have to make a Knowledge check to determine if a troll has regeneration...

    2e.... more flavor than 3e?

Didn't WotC release "Ghostwalk" as well? From what I've heard it definitely has it's own flavor. As to the 3e vrs 2e flavor debate: IMO it always seemed that 2e was less concerned with rules than books on flavor. 3e seems to go to great lengths to define rules and mechanics within the game...

In Praise of Scenes of Artwork

I'd have to say that WAR is IMO one of the best fantasy artists out there. His ability to capture action seems comparable to Thomas Kinkade's ability to capture light. As somewhat of an artist I'd have to say that I hope to one day be able to create action as well as him. :) My favorite...

Running a "Pitch Black" esque scenario-- ideas needed.

Another good idea that I like, I can imagine their reactions when I first state that it diminishes. Hmmm.. for some reason I got the image of the PCs trying to run down a steep rocky hillside. Then the horde of Kython's crests the hill after them, and one trips... and rolls into another...

Running a "Pitch Black" esque scenario-- ideas needed.

Excellent idea, this I like a lot. Then when the player says what he does I can keep the pace of the action. Awesome :-)

Running a "Pitch Black" esque scenario-- ideas needed.

I'm going to be running a Pitch Black like scenario as the title implies and I need some help creating the feel. But first, I'll give some background into what is happening and my ideas so far (sorry if it's a long read :heh: ): The PCs are currently in the Astral doing some scouting work on a...

What are the "best" Dungeon adventures

I'd have to second (or third in this case) "Trouble at Grog's" as one of The Best Ever. I started my last campaign with a converted version and the players loved it. Nothing like a little racism to start off a campaign ;-)

On average, how much damage do your party fighters do?

My 6th level paladin does an average of 21 at +10/+5 with a typical -3 power attack. On a charge I do an average of 33 at +9 attack with Leap Attack. Attack= +6 BAB + 4 Str +1 WF +2 magic greatsword -3 power attack Damage= 2d6 + 6 Str + 6 Power Attack +2 magic greatsword

A Good Prestige Class for a Paladin

I'm not sure what the list said, but I had a Divine Crusader that used the War domain that was fairly powerful. I used Practicied Spellcaster (CAr) and Spell Penetration to increase my chance of breaking SR, since the Power Word spells already lack a save. Attack and smite the first round...

    an earth-focused character

Stonelord from (CW) is a pretty good PrC for an earth focused character. There's also the Divine Crusader (CD), just pick a nature-type god with the Earth domain.

Reach Weapon and Hold the Line

If a character has the Hold the Line feat (CW), and wields a longspear and say spiked gauntlets, does he get two AoO's when a creature with 5' reach charges him? (One for passing through a threatened area, and another for the Hold the Line feat)
