    They beat Scrabble, man. Scrabble.

    D&D 5E (2014) Removal of class-based stat bonuses?

Isn't that kind of diluted by the fact that the strongest halfings are all the same strength as the strongest half-orcs, though. I get the lore-based reasoning, and I agree with it to a degree, but then there's always the fact that the peak halfing strength is the same as the peak half-orc...

    D&D 5E (2014) On the Planes

The group made their way carefully through the second floor. It wasn’t as large as the first floor, and they crept as quietly as they could, listening for any sign that someone lurked ahead. Mehen’s muscles tensed every time they passed a statue or a suit of armor, but the objects remained...

    D&D 5E (2014) How do you prepare/build encounters in 5e? (Poll)

I use the DM guidelines, with the caveat that I am fairly generous with magic items so I build encounters as if the PCs are +1 level and I only make Hard or higher encounters. So far it has worked very well.

    D&D 5E (2014) On the Planes

The Godsman guard contingent outside the house was loaded for bear. They numbered five crossbowmen, two wizards, and six heavily armored individuals, plus four more who constantly patrolled around the building. It was obvious that they didn’t want anyone getting out of this house, and they were...

    D&D 5E (2014) GM's - How do you handle identifying magical items?

I allow them the option to attune a magic item without knowing what it is, at which point they will know the properties of the item, but they are way too paranoid for that. I think they laughed at the notion of it and then promptly forgot it was an option. For non-attunable magic items, they do...

    D&D 5E (2014) GM's - How do you handle identifying magical items?

I require identify to be cast on items to know the details of the item. What I do is create a handout on an index card, on one side a picture of the item and on the other the details of what the item is and does. When they identify the item, they can flip it over to take a look. I've attached...

New D&D Survey: What Do you Want From Older Editions?

I wrote in warlord as well. Hopefully they got a lot of write ins for that! Also, bariaur, githyanki, and githzerai would be nice. Ticked thise box as well, although I have my own written up, as well as Modron. Darn... should have written Modron in... missed opportunity there.

What We Know About SWORD COAST LEGENDS DM Tools

It seems to have less capability than Neverwinter Nights did back over a decade ago, though. In NWN, you were able to modify and drop monsters, take over NPCs/monsters and control them in game. You could also create maps, create items, import assets for use, and modify all kinds of aspects of...

    D&D 5E (2014) On the Planes

Mehen had been intrigued by the arcane ever since he began his travels through the Planes, finding his path intersecting that with a wizard who led him to Sigil, Quaslin, a seasoned adventurer and graybeard. Mehen had never been incredibly adept at manipulating those arcane forces, but magic...

Data map of the RPG Community

Not sure if reddit.com is a thing you could add, but there are a bunch of RPG communities over there, the biggest being http://www.reddit.com/r/DnD, http://www.reddit.com/r/DungeonsAndDragons, http://www.reddit.com/r/RPG, and http://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding I think.

SWORD COAST LEGENDS: Xbox and PS4!

Have to buy them all if they want to see all the various stories centered around the plot, yes, absolutely. In other words, you can't just buy Sword Coast and skip the others if you want to know what happens. It's a different kind of have to buy than what you seem to be implying. I feel that...

    D&D 5E (2014) On the Planes

The group - Mozzy, Mehen, Aurian, and Jer - sat in silence in the Mimir. It was early afternoon, and there weren’t many customers. Esbjorn had let them into a back room to talk privately, busying himself in the back room getting the barrels of mead ready to roll out when the evening rush...

SWORD COAST LEGENDS: Xbox and PS4!

In their current model there one RPG book to buy, one CRPG to buy, one MMORPG to "buy", and one novel to buy. Anyone interested in those things can pick up the single item associated with their preferences. This is good because you aren't overwhelming any one particular audience more than...

    D&D 5E (2014) On the Planes

Factotum Berroda’s office smelled of soot. The coals of her own personal forge glowed in the dim light of the room, a small one but with a heat that could never quite be quenched. Still, she didn’t really use it that often. She just liked to look at it, to smell it, said it reminded her of who...

SWORD COAST LEGENDS: Xbox and PS4!

They aren't the same plot. They're two different stories happening simultaneously around a central theme. Same with the book set to be released about the same time. Each is a separate, but related, adventure. So if you want to see all sides of the story, you have to buy both. Seems pretty smart...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mage Armor: A (nearly) must have?

It's not really about the 1st level spell slot, its about the prepared slots that it will take. Even a 15th level wizard with 20 Int can only prepare 20 spells for the day. It seems like a lot, but that's all his spell levels combined up to 8th level. That's only two spells per level. You have...

    D&D 5E (2014) On the Planes

The Anarchists attacked. The woman who had done the talking, and presumably the leader, was the first to act. She curled her hands around the hilt of the greatsword on her back, using her other hand to release the blade. Her shoulders flexed, and the greatsword swung out while she moved...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mage Armor: A (nearly) must have?

Highly dependent from game to game, but if the characters have ways to procure specific scrolls, or for one PC to make them, it is easy to get away with not preparing mage armor and instead using scrolls to gain the effect instead. That way you save on spells prepared/known for other things, but...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition has broken Bounded Accuracy

Just to add onto this a bit, I ran a seafaring campaign a couple of years ago. Heavy armor was typically a bad idea. Players built their characters accordingly in order to fit the genre and to remain viable combatants (and not drown) while in the water. It was up to each player to be able to...
