    Elemental Hero' Handbook

The PP of course would be Abominable Snowman.

    Powerplayers

I assumed he meant Thunder Tether, which is a lv. 13 Psion power.

    Powerplayers

There is nothing overpowered about this character. His power selection is legal, as far as I can tell: he has at least one psion and one wizard power for each type of power. Even his wizard dailies are not that encounter-breaking unless you get unlucky with the saving throws. The only real power...

    Doorway fighting

Oh yeah, the Neldrazu has an abduction teleportation attack that's good for breaking up the line.

    Doorway fighting

Throw an encounter at them with two or more artillery monsters with powerful, status-inducing AoEs. They will never bunch up at the door again. A personal favorite of mine for mid-heroic is the Duergar Theurge.

Compendium doesn't load on mobile devices anymore? Why?

The new interface has been working fine for me at least since last night, which is the first time that I've checked it with my phone in a while. I'm happy they have a mobile interface up that works for me, but I am disappointed that it is a failure for others. For what it's worth, I'm using an...

    Ranged Defender: Doable?

You can do this right now with a Swordmage|Artificer hybrid. Basically, take Aegis of Shielding, Hybrid Talent for Swordmage Warding, and Artificer powers with con riders. Notably, Magic Weapon works with both ranged and melee weapons, so you could do this with thrown light blades, thrown heavy...

    Too many players!

Option #2 is where it's at, especially if you can get the groups competing with each other, like in the story about The Head of Vecna. Obviously it can't be too contentious, since the player in one group will be the DM of the other group, but there's still a lot of potential here for some honest...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Yes, an impasse. Wizards has the means to go to a digital-only subscription-based distribution model. They have withdrawn access to material before, recently, with the removal of RPGA material from the Compendium. Wizards has already made radical changes to the way they present the game...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Or it could be that the enjoyment that I get from playing the game has previously outweighed the negative qualities, and the continued ill behavior from Wizards is finally putting me in to a position where I no longer like it. Honestly, I have been buying less Wizards stuff lately, because I'm...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

The DM's Kit is the only Essentials resource that has rules for things like encounter and skill challenge construction. It is no less a requirement than the DMG. In many ways, it is inferior to the DMG. That Essentials is cheaper than the core material is an illusion. It is easier to get in...

Will the Domain-oriented Cleric in Essentials...

If all you want to do is heal, then the classic 4e cleric is more effective by far. The Essentials cleric fills a gap that the classic Strength Cleric and Runepriest did not do well.

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

I want to reiterate that an subscription-only online model is completely compatible with physical play and families. The things that support the notion that Wizards intends to continue the physical book model include the Encounters program and the retailer program that allows the FLGS to stock...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Precisely. My claim is that the online-only character builder that requires a constant subscription could be a first move in that direction :)

The Hexblade (Essentials Warlock) is up!

True. What will your devil/fey noble/far-realm outsider think of you using their gift to you as a mere tool?

The Hexblade (Essentials Warlock) is up!

The pact weapon goes away if the wielder ever lets go of the blade or the implement. I don't think it's a big problem. That might make for an interesting plot hook. You're exploring a dungeon and come across a dust and cobweb encrusted construct holding a door barred with it's pact blade.

Also, moving to a subscription-only distribution model for D&D is not inconsistent with physical gaming, and it's not family-unfriendly.

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Hasbro's main business is not selling ideas, it's selling toys. When there are ideas involved, the ideas sell the toys. That's the way D&D is profoundly different from anything else they sell, including M:tG. With D&D, the idea is the toy. There is no strict need to sell a physical artifact...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Oh, you misunderstand me. I do buy books. I endorse DDi as a supplemental product for the books. However, if they get out of the book publishing business and move users over to a pure subscription model, then they can indeed cut off access to online-only material at some future point. I can...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

So I've figured it out ... Remember a couple of years ago, when people would complain bitterly about the new edition and a common response went something like "Wizards won't send the book police to take your old books"? In the pure online subscription based model, they can take our books.
