Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

This is absolutely true. Typical D&D approach to religion is Christianity but with multiple deities. You see temples depicted with pews and pulpits and hierarchical clergy and rules to follow and antipathy to other deities. I'm sure Ed knows a lot about real world polytheism and uses that in his...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Nope, generally when you discover something, you get to give it a name. So someone could observe any new phenomena whatsoever, and decide to name it “ghost”. Or “fairy”, or whatever. And from then on, it’s true, because those things were previously undefined. Science advances by failing to...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

So how do you know a fire isn’t a ghost? Since you cannot say what it is, there is nothing to say that a ghost isn’t fire.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

But unless you already know what a ghost is and what a fairy is, then there is no way to tell which was the cause. What you need to do is describe a thing, call it a ghost, and then try and fail to prove that thing is not real.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Of course it matters, what a strange question. You can't answer the question "are ghosts real" if the thing you are studying is a fairy!

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

You still haven't said what a ghost is. If we don't know what it is, we cannot say if it's reliably appearing. How do you tell the difference between a ghost, a fairy and a UFO? Sure, people use things without understanding them all the time. But we aren't talking about using ghosts. I'm...

If you don't know what it is, how would you know if you had observed it?

D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

I’ve seen the occasional PC dwarf over my 43 years of playing, mostly because it’s me playing them, but I don’t think anyone would really miss them if they weren’t there. Only the people who always come out and say “how dare you change ANYTHING!!!” would object to their absence. I’m pretty sure...

D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

Never seen that as a thing for D&D elves. Superior and arrogant is more on brand. Dwarves have never been all that popular, and I don't see what's depressing about it. Who would choose to be short and angry if they had a choice!?

D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

I don’t consider “it’s in the PHB” as meaning something is automatically available. Of course it’s something to discuss with the players, and I will generally work with them to let them play what they want, but the PHB has no special status.

D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

I would define it as not a mammalian humanoid. So Thi-Kreen, Centaurs, Dragonborn, plasmoids, warforged, lizard folk, etc I associate "long lifespan" with elves. They definitely aint ethereal, and as for supporters, that depends on the age and culture of your players, Pillar of what exactly...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

The Banneret is so boring that no one will ever play it. It's a pointless waste of space. Battlemaster is flat better and can fill exactly the same RP role. Champion all fits the role if you want something simpler. You know what role we don't have a fighter subclass for: dragon rider (or any...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Order of the Garter: 677 years and still going. It's done it by changing it's role to suit the times though.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

No contradiction. The feedback was simply “do you like this y/n”. They don’t read the comments, it’s too expensive and difficult to analyse. Allowing comments is just a ploy to encourage people to participate. Thus the lore is still changed even though the reason for the change was voted into...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

As already mentioned, you would have to have a prediction before you could test anything. What do you mean by paranormal? If you can test something, then it’s just normal. And, the laws of thermodynamics are themselves subject to potential falsification*. The laws of Physics are only true until...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Without any anything physical to prevent it - thermodynamics? Possible but not that I know of - then it must exist, many times over. Mortality is a very human-centric concept.
