Which edition of D&D did you start with?

The original white box and Greyhawk. Eldritch Wizardry, Blackmoor and Gods, Demi-gods and Heroes was my first excursion into mail-order I believe!

    Eberron: The Last War

The Last War didn't achieve anything but the destruction of Cyre. So now all the remaining kingdoms are trying to build up there economic base and possibly develop a few uber-weapons for when it all kicks off again...

Combats -- Good til the last (corpses) drop?

I can't say that it's ever occurred to me to fast-forward a combat. I will have badguys cut and run if their side is losing, though I daresay monsters are still braver than they probably should be :\

    Fantasy Pilgrimages

Pilgrimages are big business. Both for those who sell holy tokens and relics to the pilgrims and those who offer said pilgrims safe lodgings along the pilgrims' way. Of course the one that stands to make the most out of it is the appropriate church. A rich man might not exactly be able to buy...

How would you handle this player/situation? (long-ish)

I pretty much allow players to play what they like so I sympathise with the DM in this case. I've had similar experiences with these high ECL races. I run a game that involoves 10-11 year olds and one of them is really into exotic types. He's run a half-dragon, which didn't last long. I...

    Eberron: The Last War

So the lightning trains existed before the war, I think I've read in one of the other threads Keith Baker stating that the network was once far more extensive than it remains now. This seems to suggest that certain routes suffered during the war, possible destroyed due to their military...

    Eberron: The Last War

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think that getting too hung up on the magical nature of the world is probably the wrong thing to do. I take the point that large scale war magic may not have that prevalent. This is how I see the war developing. It starts out in very 'Mediaeval' fashion...

    Eberron: The Last War

OK – I’ve read through the Eberron book and I’m favourably impressed by what I’ve seen. I speed-read so I may have missed some points and if I have I apologise in advance but I have been pondering various aspects and feel the need to get a little other impact. The Last War is the pivotal event...

Now that you have Eberron - will you run it?

I like Eberron I may mine it for ideas, I certainly would like to run it at some point in the future. I know that if I come to the table with a game that my players will give it a go without worrying too much over which setting I am using. I'll certainly be collecting more Eberron books. At...

    Unusual Bard Trainers

Make the bird a cursed halfling songstress and you have the quest to save her as the basis for something horribly romantic!

Things to do at a ball

So have they sent out for tailors, and glovers, and hatters and cobblers so they are dressed up in all the latest fashions? Or are they going to show themselves off as roughs and bumpkins of the worst sort? Have they arranged musicians, quality entertainment? Perhaps the neighbouring lord...

    Eberron = Tekumel?

I'm looking forward to the d20 Tekumel which I believe, is being done by Mike Mearls...

DM'ing for 1 Player, Need Advice

A halfling rogue would do well in a city-based campaign. In my experience single-player games are great for role-playing and can get quite intense. You could have your PC run up against the Thieves Guild, the local Guard or any powerful person who they've robbed. If she's not larcenously...

    The Lich (Origins)

One fairly common derivation of this term is that of lich-gate, being the gate through coffins carrying the deceased are brought into a church. We have such a construction attached to our church grounds, unremarkable in itself bar the name. I believe a lot of churches in the UK, especially...

    New continuity rule

The one mission a session idea is great if your session is long enough. Often the most exciting series episodes are the ones which end 'To be Continued"...

    "older" gamers

I'm 50 this year and I don't think that there's anyone in my group that I'm not old enough to be the father of. Fortunately for all of us age isn't an issue. I'm also DM-ing for two 11 year olds and a 10 year old - now sometimes they make me feel old! :\

    Lamest character deaths ever!

My friend had a kobold fighter. He got him up to third level and he had gained two hench-kobolds. So they're all wandering down the dungeon corridor when a frost giant came round the corned and trod on all three. What really miffed him was that the giant didn't even notice.
