D&D 5E (2014) Two wizard homebrew mechanics: any unintended consequences?

Having all the school's spells automatically prepared is a massive buff. Playing a wizard is always about choosing which spells to prepare and which to leave out. Book casting is also super-powerful, what's to stop me from doing this 3 or 4 times until I make the check? And 2025 Wizards get...

D&D 5E (2024) How to make ranged attack more hazardous for the user.

I think the advantages of ranged attacks are mitigated by proper use of cover rules (super rare in practice). But in general, having mobs that aren't just all on one side of the map qnd/or having cover from ranged attacks does a good job of stopping ranged characters from being so strong...

    D&D General Talking Animals

So you mean talking animals not as animals but as playable races? Plenty of examples of this, we have bunnies, cats, fish, turtles... Use these as a comparison and have a Dog if you want, but you really need hands.

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

Is this all a coded thing about "Those people?" Enworld running dnd would be a train system with 50 criss-crossing tracks, no signals, and numerous collisions a day. All in service to what? I seriously don't get it, but I'm not out in search of the next culture war.

D&D General Is this use of a wizard's spellbook accurate?

What a train wreck. No. I'm not even quoting rules on this it's so wrong. The table says what level spells you can cast, and for wizards that also means the spells you can copy into your spellbook. My guess it this is AI created slop that will now poison future AI slop articles.

D&D 5E (2024) Does Innate Sorcery grant True Strike advantage?

I sometimes wonder if this forum just attracts the pedantic. It is a magic action. It is an attack. It has advantage.

D&D 5E (2024) Forgotten Realms Question: Do followers of Bane engage in sacrifices?

When I think of followers of Bane I picture khaki wearing tiki-torch bearing pinheads. They actually think they're the Good Guys.

D&D General Player: Gaining influence in d&d

    1. Do stupid dances that a bunch of people want to watch. That seems to be the tiktok influencer model. 2. Show your awesome rich person stuff to people who want to watch. That's the IG influencer model. If it were me I'd be influencing the lifespan of the racists by cutting them short, but...

D&D General Two Simple Ways to Make Combat More Engaging

Combat isn't engaging when people aren't f-ing ready to go. Not sure any of the initiative things helps this.

D&D General Whom has used the Egg of Coot?

https://www.grammarly.com/blog/commonly-confused-words/who-vs-whom/ Who is used to refer to the subject of a sentence or clause (the person performing an action). Whom is used to refer to the object of a verb or preposition (the person being affected by an action). Who and whom are both...

    D&D General Games Economies

I think that as a player I want to adventure, not spend my efforts shopping for things I can't afford. Obviously if you make you players righ quickly they'll have plate mail as soon as they can afford it. If you let them buy magic items then they'll be decked out with everything if you let...

D&D General Wild Shape: Inefficient or Useless?

I think everyone has covered it, but in summary it's neither inefficient nor useless. Yes, a rat or spider is a great scout. And yes, scouting means splitting the party. Sorry cleric, keep your heavy plate mail where you are, I'll go see what the enemy camp is like. Note that your spider or...

    D&D 5E (2024) 5.5 Fighter Best Eince 2E

You can't use a longbow without 13 str, which seems like a good compromise to me. Longbows are fantastic, it's bad to avoid them.

    D&D 5E (2024) 5.5 Fighter Best Eince 2E

Good observation. In effect, it buffs two handed weapons if you make better magic shields harder to find.

DDAL Elven chain armour. do you need light armour proficiency?

Elven Chain is either a +1 Chain Shirt or +1 Chain Mail and thus is either Medium or Heavy armor. It is defined as being either in the 2024 DMG, but also specified as such in the basic rules: "Armor (Chain Mail or Chain Shirt), Rare."...

D&D General The joys of playing a PC with low stats

A fighter with 6 int could be fun, but back then we didn't have a choice on where to put the crap stat. My 6 Str Thief sucked.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

No lack of distinction between Warlocks and the other 2? Really? Because Warlocks sure play differently. I look at Wizards and Sorcs as different species in the same genus like lions and tigers. Warlocks are a different biology family, they just do some of the same things, like tigers &...

D&D 5E (2024) Fireball Vs Chromatic Orb Late Tier 2 Thoughts.

I'm out, the rules of the game seem to have changed: "Chromatic Orb is super strong because paralyzed targets." Wow.

D&D 5E (2024) Fireball Vs Chromatic Orb Late Tier 2 Thoughts.

I don't understand your paralyzed comments. If CO is better against Paralyzed opponents, that's a bit of a different argument, though now FB gets auto-fails on saves. The thread isn't "FB vs CO Late Tier 2 against paralyzed targets thoughts." Getting back to straight rolls, at L8, I expect to...
