    Can a swarm be grabbed?

Sure. Absolutely. Except that most Fantasy role playing game worlds (Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Thieves World, Birthright, Ptolus, Mystara, and about a zillion other more-or-less vanilla worlds) assume/are based, with more or less success, on a Physics engine similar to our own world (i.e...

    Can a swarm be grabbed?

It's an interesting point you're bringing to the table, and since it is a step further from our previous exchanges, I think it's worth answering to from my point of view. I'm sure you're going to find plenty of people whose opinions and scrutiny indeed fit this sort of anti-martial bias you're...

I think TSR was right to publish so much material

Really?! Because I'm certainly not one of them! 2nd Ed AD&D is certainly NOT my idea of a "Golden Era" for D&D. I would reach much farther back in time for that. From OD&D to Pre-UA First Ed AD&D, roughly.

Fortune Cards: and randomized collectible cards come to D&D

As far as YOU are concerned? Sure. As far as I am concerned? I'm right. I did start my sentence with "I think" and pursued with "what puzzles me" after all. You're free to think otherwise. Doesn't make me wrong as far as I am concerned. ;)

Learning from GMs at GenCon - Respond to Roleplaying

Depends. If describing the action further than "I attack" goes along with an actual immersion of the player into the character as he describes *his* moves and expressions, then it is role playing. If the description is done from a bird's eye view, considering the character as a separate...

Fortune Cards: and randomized collectible cards come to D&D

I think the card and collectible aspects of this are red herrings. What really puzzles me is the continuing trend to make both 4E and Pathfinder, i.e. most of the modern D&D experience, a "storygame", as opposed to a "role playing game". More thoughts on this.

    Can a swarm be grabbed?

Not at the moment, precisely because of this sort of nonsense (to me) we're talking about here, where words don't mean what they really mean, where the rules are the game, the game the rules, that you reinvent concepts like "mythical heroes" to mean that you can indeed grab swarms, the narrative...

At What Point Does PF Become Its Own System?

Nostalgia? Like that's not a trolling argument that's been used ad nauseam. Alright. I'm just not in the mood to go on with this sort of silliness. Welcome to my ignore list.

    Can a swarm be grabbed?

I'm sorry, DracoSuave, but your argument indeed makes no sense whatsoever to me as it pertains to the question at hand, i.e. whether a swarm can be "grabbed" or not. It's not a question of "narrative", but a question of logic, to me. It is a question of whether as a GM you can make judgment...

    Can a swarm be grabbed?

WTF? Do you have an actual example in mind?

    Can a swarm be grabbed?

Just use common sense. Example: Q: Can a swarm be grabbed? A: Huh? No. There. Done. :)

At What Point Does PF Become Its Own System?

There are no expiry dates on game systems, to me. I still play OD&D and AD&D. The notion that a design would become "outdated" is something that really makes me scratch my head in disbelief. The only incentive I see to have a new edition of a game is to basically re-sell core books to its core...

At What Point Does PF Become Its Own System?

That's a strange question to ask. Pathfinder is its own thing to me. I don't spend any more of my time comparing Pathfinder to 3.5 at this point than I would AD&D or OD&D. These are all games that are part of the D&D tradition to me, and games I use in different circumstances with different...

So Why Restrict Yourself To Only One Game Setting?

You might be interested in this thread of the RPGSite. It's about "combating gamer ADD", or discussing the virtues of sticking with a single setting over the course of many campaigns. Quoting Rob Conley (author of the Majestic Wilderlands) in the first post:

Masks of Nyarlathotep is one of the best RPG campaigns ever written. Period. Any gamer would do well to own and run that one.

Has one of the people in your campaign ever died in real life?

Yes. It's happened to me. One of my best friends died in a bike accident the day he was doing some errands before driving to the local convention. We (his closest friends) learned about the accident while sitting at the convention waiting for him to arrive. We were the organizers of the actual...
