The book is one of Gygax's Gord the Rogue novels. Edit: I recognize the critter, and Google images says it's Saga of Old City. The boxes on the table are D&D miniatures from Grenadier. (I have the bottom box, or one of 'em anyways -- I don't remember how many different sets they had in that...

Let's say D&D ceases to exist...what do you play?

Savage Worlds & Mutants & Masterminds (both of which I'm playing or GMing now), GURPS, Shadowrun, FATE, maybe Eclipse Phase, or whatever else we decide to play. Maybe we'd hoist the black flag, and play D&D or Pathfinder anyways! We'd be rebels! Revolutionaries! Playing by memory, assuming...

    Monster Quiz at Wizards

20/20 a bunch of times. I finally missed the two-headed troll -- I just glanced at it and picked ettin. Tricksy! Some of the alternate names are amusing. Is it a Roper or a Furley? A Hook Horror or a Hook Romance?

    Oots 0758

That would be awesome. Of course, the contest would last for decades. Whole nations would rise and fall before a victor was declared ;)

    We go left!

My concluded D&D game and current PF game both had the PCs always going a certain way. A few times, it's gotten them in very deep trouble -- in PF, they skipped most of the dungeon and went directly to the baddest critter in the dungeon, without benefit of possibly gaining either a level or...

OotS #757 is up! Something Blue....

The most amusing thing is that Tarquin is very genre-savvy, so he probably already knows that his son is guaranteed to spurn his offer to join him & rule the world together. I wonder how he deals with the narrative doom that tends to befall villains? Maybe that's his genre-guaranteed blindspot?

    November: What are you reading?

    Reading Boneshaker, by Cherie Priest.

    On the topic of crafting.

You are reading the rules right. They work okay for regular gear, but they break at high and low values. So weapons or armor made of special materials take way too long to make for most PCs in many campaigns. Even regular plate armor takes so long that the typical adventure path would be mostly...

Supernatural Role Playing Game (Help & Discuss)

How useful would it be for another game system? One of these days, I want to run a Supernatural-esque game, but it likely won't be with Cortex/Supernatural.

    OotS #753

And now 0753: Slash Attack is up. Another good one, at least IMO. Pop-up text spoiler prevention spacing. Go Giants! How many characters is the hover-text anyways?

    Favored Classes and NPCs

Anybody taking a class (PC or NPC class) can get favored class bonuses for their class. It's in the FAQ. You can't take "racial HD" as favored class, though, so no bonuses for monsters without class levels. And you can't take a prestige class as a favored class (not sure why not; I suspect it's...

    GURPS wild west game

If you want them to start small, then just use the standard starting point total for whichever edition you're using (100 for 3e, 150 for 4e, IIRC).

    OotS #750 is up!

    What was Durkon doing?

    Flight vs Teleportation

Depends on the details, but assuming the optimum circumstances (i.e, no problems with the laws of conservation or risk of appearing inside objects), I'd go with teleport. As Nifft said, flight is kind of going to attract a lot of attention.

Gurps or Hero for supers game?

Between GURPS and HERO, and assuming you want to do four-color, Avengers/X-Men/JLA-style supers, I would go with HERO. If it were more Wild Cards or Elementals-style comics, or street-level martial artists, I'd probably go with GURPS. (But HERO could do it, too.) In years past, I've run...

    Pathfinder 1E Freeport Pathfinder Companion

Free Hand Fighter is okay, but you don't get any more skill points or Acrobatics; how can you be a swashbuckler at 2 skill points/level and no Acrobatics? Also, the Free Hand Fighter isn't great for being a master swordsman -- since they don't get any Weapon Training until 17th level*, they...

Hide my email info in the "contacts" tab?

If you built a system to send emails from the web, even if they couldn't harvest email addresses from it, spammers would use the form to send people spam. Then when/if someone got an email from notreallyaspammer.com via ENWorld and replied to say "WTF", they'd get the email address.

    STARGATE UNIVERSE #1:Intervention (3)/Season 2-2010

I'm okay with those, because the odds are, we probably don't know everything we think we know about that stuff. It's not like we can go get first-hand data. So if there's a weird pulsar in some other galaxy that doesn't behave like the ones we know, that's okay. It's not like their universe is...

    Chuck Season 4

Ditto on Old Spice Guy. I also loved Morgan actually holding the fan to provide the breeze-in-the-face for the old BuyMore crew's power walk. I wonder if the CIA super-competent crew will have to coexist with the old crew? And how is Big Mike going to fit into the situation, if Morgan is the...
