Critical Role Professor DM interviews Critical Role Cast

I take people at their word until proven otherwise. In this case I see no evidence of it or really any reason for them to do so, the reasons they gave were reasonable and logical. There's no evidence they've ever knowingly mislead anyone so I see no reason to imply that they are being less...

Critical Role Professor DM interviews Critical Role Cast

They switched to pre-recorded in season 3, it made it easier because of scheduling issues. AFAIK it's still not edited in any significant way.

Critical Role Professor DM interviews Critical Role Cast

They explained why they didn't in the interview. There's no "As far as we are aware" when it comes to CR not being offered money by WotC to stick with D&D unless you assume they are lying when they said they have not. They chose to continue with D&D because they started planning this campaign...

Especially when they can, and do, have Daggerheart streams. It would be highly risky to try to push viewers into an entirely different system especially with a new GM and rotating groups of people.

D&D General Hit Points are a great mechanic

Then it's fantastic that the game and the option exists for you. I would be bored to tears.

D&D General Hit Points are a great mechanic

I also don't see other systems that I've seen tried and read up on that work significantly better. It's all personal preference of course but a tabletop game can't possibly have a realistic damage and wound system especially when you throw magic into the mix. If it could, it likely wouldn't be...

D&D General Advice for a new DM

This is something I wrote up a while back, it’s a bit long but I hope it’s helpful. This is what works for me and has for a long time. Advice for New Dungeon Masters: A Practical Philosophy Style and Flexibility Every DM has their own rhythm. What works for one may not work for another. The...

D&D General Hit Points are a great mechanic

Depends on the hostage of course but if someone has a knife to someone's throat in my game I use a variation of 3e's coupe de grace. The hostage is considered unconscious which means that the attack has advantage and is automatic critical. In addition in my game if they survive that it's a...

D&D General Who is this made for (Not Beginners) - the New D&D Starter Set

It sounds like you weren't the target audience for the starter set as it was designed. Other than that I can't say much - I don't have the starter set and don't plan on buying it because I've introduced plenty of people to the game without one. So it's like giving a bicycle to someone who...

Critical Role Professor DM interviews Critical Role Cast

Almost like people can have different preferences in games and different reasons for choosing which game they play. CR being D&D instead of Daggerheart makes sense if you actually listen to the interview. It's not like D&D vs Daggerheart is a zero sum game, people can play and enjoy both.

D&D General Radiation & nuclear waste

I have areas that are still scarred by ancient magic, magic is a little wonky (You get to be a Wild Mage and You get to be a Wild Mage!), lots of aberrations, mutants (maybe even a Deathclaw or two) and weird weather effects. I haven't used them all that often because they're dangerous areas...

Critical Role Releases New Campaign 4 Trailer

It was posted a few days ago Critical Role - Professor DM interviews Critical Role Cast. I thought it was a good interview.

Critical Role Releases New Campaign 4 Trailer

I watch/listen to them while doing other things like exercising, making supper, cleaning or whatever. I like them because I can just sort of pay attention but if I need to ignore them for a moment now and then it's not a big deal (and I can always rewind). Four hours a week isn't that much if...

D&D General Who is this made for (Not Beginners) - the New D&D Starter Set

I don't think that's a logical conclusion. This is the training wheels version of D&D just to introduce people to the concepts of the game. If they like it they can download the free rules or go on to the core rules. As much as I liked LMoP as a starter set it still assumed there was an...

    RPG Evolution: Weight, What?

I would also mention that most magic items can last forever. That magic sword can't rust so it gets lost in a shipwreck and 100 years later it's still in perfect condition. It's not "guaranteed to last 5 years" flame, it's continual flame and so on. Obviously there would also be scam artists...

    RPG Evolution: Weight, What?

Who said I'm "handing them out?" They can buy them depending where they are, but I don't hand out as much gold as published campaigns and a lot of gold tends to go to healing potions. They may find or be gifted the more powerful items but many uncommon items are for sale in cities. It also...

    RPG Evolution: Weight, What?

We use DDB and I do ask people to track weight. Meanwhile things like a climbers kit is 25 GP so yes they would need it on their list. But things like that kit or a shovel are what bags of holding are for. Useful outside of combat so it doesn't matter if it takes a minute or two to find. I...
