    Incantatrix, a sorcerous origin

Yes it is simply unreadable. Please fix I am curious.

5E conversions for player races from Monte Cooke's Arcana Evolved/Unearthed

Well the turning into a tiny faery is the tough part. Size tiny. Same problem with the giant turning large. I don't know what the size shifts do exactly for a PC... The mojh could be a series of feats or perhaps a background for a human which only offers cosmetic changes (and deep story and...

Ability Score Improvement Class Feature Suggested Change

There are two things that I do not like about ability score improvement change as written in the PHB. The cap this is an artificial limiter and to me it makes more sense to not have it there and simply make it difficult to get a 20 and extremely difficult to get over a 20. PCs can get to 20 to...

5E conversions for player races from Monte Cooke's Arcana Evolved/Unearthed

For Keen Senses just say they have advantage on sight, smell, and hearing perception checks. Then delete scent. For Gregarious add 1/2 proficiency to those things. In this way you would wind up with d20+CHA+gregarious+skill bonus. I look forward to seeing how you do the lizard guy and the faen.

D&D 5E (2014) The Wonkiness of Tool Proficiency

In a scenario like that you could break up all the different instances you might call for a perception check and make them different skills. For instance, you might have ambush detection skill, and secret door detection skill. For me making the skill system that granular adds no real gameplay...

    Other useful conditions

I suppose you are right. If you give the tag condition to "dying" that is a house rule. I think that hair is split so thin that it hardly makes sense. But I can at least see how someone's logic might interact incorrectly with that. ;)

Um, huh??? There are no house rules in this thread. Just rules discussions. Is there a better rules forum???

    Other useful conditions

I felt like the list of conditions that are in PHB do not encompass enough of the conditions that are commonly used in the game. Here are a couple more that can be added to the list. Let me know if there are any errors or if there are additional conditions that should exist. PHB listed...

D&D 5E (2014) The Wonkiness of Tool Proficiency

This is not entirely true. You do not learn long sword proficiency or chain mail proficiency. You learn Heavy Armor proficiency a whole class of armors and you learn martial weapon proficiency again a large class of items. These are in my mind more synonymous with the opposite of what you are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer spell selection

For me house rules are not just errata at the table. I will set up a house rules document to go for a feel I am looking for in the campaign. There may be some errata type house rules in there but mostly looking for a theme. My 3e house rules document has a lot of changes to classes to allow the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer spell selection

I guess it boils down to your view on house rules. Are you a RAW warrior? If so, the answer is... there's the spell list p. 209... in your game. If your sorcerer player had an idea outside the box on the list, there's the spell list p. 209. And why? Because... I have ever encountered and they...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer spell selection

I did not realize what a hot button topic this was. There are some seriously entrenched sides or steeldragons has set upon a very flammable straw man. For me, what I was hoping this thread would uncover is that a sorcerer with a smaller potential list of spells they can learn is not serving...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer spell selection

Why do the sorcerer's have such a limited spell selection? Were they very limited in 4e? Limited to blasting stuff and that is it? This reminds me of the battlemage in 3e's complete arcane. In my mind, a sorcerer is master of magic and should be able to master any type of magic, because magic...

    D&D 5E (2014) Oriental Adevntures

Ancestral weapon as a class feature? It could be a feat. It could be a background feature it could be simply a campaign backdrop item. Shaman/shugenja can be a druid. Wujen literally is a wizard. So my opinion is no need to conflate the crunch. I agree with you. I think it would be neat to see...

    Armor as DR

Yeah I thought about adding in the proficiency bonus to the mix. Makes sense to do so. Perhaps it could be: 8 + Prof + DEX + Parry

    D&D 5E (2014) Oriental Adevntures

Technically Samurai is a caste of nobility and does not indicate if they are necessarily warriors. Bushi is the name of the warrior profession. Warrior = bushi and samurai not necessarily warrior. Bushido is: the way of the warrior. So, I think a samurai caste person could be any class. Another...

    Armor as DR

So I am going to break these into general terms without breaking out into individual weapons and armor which may vary. DR is now a term for the amount of damage you reduce. Standard DR is 0. Parry is not a term that generates your DC to be hit. Standard parry is 10 + DEX + Parry. Armor grants...

    D&D 5E (2014) Oriental Adevntures

Just say no. I think a world building book that adds some backgrounds and conversion notes for equivalences on weapons long sword = katana (masterwork), kama = sickle etc. So point being, I want to see a book that defines multiple cultures and not one book for one culture, that is just silly...

    Magic System Conundrum

Just go with a list of domains (or spheres). Then write in the rules a difficulty based on how closely the request is to the gods portfolio. So a death god may allow certain types of magic to be very easy and certain types of other magic be very hard. It is good to quantify this but you could...

D&D 5E (2014) May belong in the homebrew forum but about Eldritch Knight

This is fine from my perspective too. It is cool to have the potential to pick any two schools. It opens up EK and AT to doing more cool stuff. I am definitely not in the school of oh just create a new subclass to account for each possible variation. Instead all of it should be handled by the...
