Rangers as Infusion users. I got another believer.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Mostly Martial ranger fans don't like it when you say that.

And even then they'd only be using it since it's the best option. I still thing the ranger crafting a bunch of special arrows GreenArrow/Hawkeye style is more thematic. But Artificers and infusions aren't core and EVERY SINGLE edition required you to be a spell caster to craft magic equipment.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

In video games rangers are shooting magic arrows, dropping magic traps, self buffing, and summoning animals from thin air. WoW. Most MOBAs, Many MMOs Witchers. Even the WOD Hunter game gives every hunter a overtly magic edge. This is why many of the new fans of D&D don't mind spell casting...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I see it mode as rangers know the fears, loves, sore spots, and curses of the favored enemy. So if the party is using advanced interrogation techniques on the lone survivor, the ranger can get them talking.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

There's not much of a lack. Most high level rangers just exist in video games, anime/manga, and sci fi. It's just that D&D discussions and discourse is heavily dominated by people of an age who really don't play video games. I listen to a lot of D&D podcast and there is a distinct level of...

Well both were written poorly and with the wrong mechanics. How Id s do it: Favored Enemy you have significant experience studying, tracking, hunting, and even talking to a certain type of enemy. Choose a type of favored enemy: aberrations, beasts, celestials, constructs, dragons, elementals...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

For FE/NT, I've always been a fan of 1 hard pick and 1 floater that can switch by spending a week studying.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

The issue is that that Spell optional Mostly Martial Ranger fans Spells mandatory, Magical Fighting Ranger fans & Ranger with Combat beast fans are fighting for the same class spot because WOTC didn't want to add classes. No one successfully made this all in one class. And no designer...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I stated back in the WOTC GLEEMAX forum days, that the ranger should get bonus damage to big monster or bonus attacks or AC vs minions as their gimmick. Applying damage to FE is a headache fans kept going back to. If it were up to me Ranger 1/2 caster Scales with spells Gets Hunter's Mark...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I said it is unsatisfying for a wide community to have Weapons Combat, Beast Companions, and Spellcasting in the same class not as options. Too many sacrifices must be made to do it in one class. Not even A5E could satisfy the majority. A5E heavily shifts to weapons combat at the expense of...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

This is WOTC 5e forum about the D&D ranger. The official D&D community is different from the communities of other games who might enjoy other types of ranger.

D&D General The rapier in D&D

One of my personal house rules was that you can sacrifice 10 points of damage for a minor unofficial status effect associated to the damage type Like you can sacrifice 10 slashing to make them Shredded Cuts (3d6 bonus damage) 10 bludgeoning for a Crushed hand/finger (can't use hand until heal...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

But to answer the questions again. 1) Why is the Ranger a necessary class? The Ranger is "necessary" because it is a container for a bunch of small but desired features that Base D&D usually lacks. 2) What are these things? Stealth Warriors (Now core in modern D&D) Tracking and...

Can be Can't be a satisfying subclass with the above Can't be a satisfying subclass with both the above --- Weapons Combat, Companions, and Spellcasting can't be choosable options on one class. It's never satisfying to the plurality in play.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Older Rangers weren't considered Rangers until they got magic spells to do things that the fan community believe that Rangers needed. And once they got spells designers would just give them more spells that match the other things they expected Rangers to have. Personally I think Rangers would...

D&D General The rapier in D&D

One reason why I wanted the Mastery system to be more like Marshall cantrips is because I think that weapon damage type could have been a prerequisite to certain ones. Like how masteries originally required to have certain properties. There could have been a weapon Mastery for different damage...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Like I said before 5e 2014 was designed for the sensibility of ultraconservative fans who griped about 4e. 5e 2024 had to be compatible to 5e 2914. Like the fighter had to be the toughest class despite the Barbarian having a D12 hit die in the fighter in the 10 hit die. So self-healing was...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

It mattered in 2014. We were coming of 4e's mythic martials which got a bunch of backlash. I mean that why we never got a Warlord class.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

A blatant supernatural ability. In 2014 90% of anything blatantly supernatural was a spell. And 9% was the monk class. 0e Ranger weren't called Ranger until level 9. At Name level they got spells and scroll use. You see how badly it got nerfed in Favored Foe to be not a spell. Favored Foe sucks.
