    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

Did you read my post? Stop talking about circumstances (which I agree are endless) and just assume a white room shopping list Edit: Besides, I asked about other items as well. For the flying items, just assume a wildrness travelling/adventuring, with smaller to midsize dungeons between. Edit...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

It's not different. But some people apparently have serious issues with gold being converted into mechanical benefits by just going shopping, not to mention having severe difficulties accepting magic items being for sale because it's not realistic or something in a fantasy world and the DM will...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

Then please give the examples I asked for earlier. Just forget about whether is on a lonely island, desert, big city or the underdark. How much should those items cost, based on their utility for a classic adventuring party (which basically is the only thing of interst for the purposes of this...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

Like I said earlier, the pricing can be fully meta, i.e. I want to improve my weapon. DM: okay, you can choose x at this amount of gold, or y for that amount or z for the same amount as x costs. Player then chooses. No magic shoppes needed. No loss of control for DM.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

It did work, though the items generally got pretty boring. But they could've used the lessons learned. And no, that is not 'just forget about it and put our head in the ground, hoping it will all go away'. Anyone can pull a number from somewhere. This whole thread is about doing it in a way...

Opinions differ on 3e, but in no way was 4e broken. Try again. So you can't make a pricing system on utility or even rarity. Check.

So? Just the more reason for WotC to improve upon them. Edit: I'm still looking forward to your pricing on the examples I mentioned earlier.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

No, you get told you are badwrongfun when you don't want other people to have a proper rules supported option of including magic item pricing, while you could just decide not to use it. Also, we are not talking item market per se, but pricing for items relatively to each other. Not for what...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

But we're not talking about TSR editions, for f***s sake! We're talking about WotC D&D. How many editions has WotC created for D&D? 3. And for two out of those, magic item pricing was an integrated part. Now it is not. People missing that points that out. They then get told what they want is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

Theses are the best that I know of: Blackball’s Treasure (the one I mostly base my own attempts on) https://www.dmsguild.com/product/272584/Expanded-Special-Feature-Manual Also, The Angry DM has a nice attempt as well (though he oes factor ririty into it), but the site is down for me right...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

Right. Again, thanks for your go at this. But this discussion is about 5e, so I don't think your examples are that relevant. I'd be very interested in your take on those items I suggested in 5e, though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

Thanks. The reason why I asked about the armors is because due to bounded accuracy, the plusses that don't break the max AC for light, medium and heavy armor should have little impact on price. So magic plate should be the heavy armor you base pricing on. What I see is that you totally ditch...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

And where is that? I (and I think others are too) am very interested in some examples. Especially since I find it very hard. How about some flight items comparatively, a +2 chain shirt, and a +1 scale mail vs a +1 plate. Throw in a amulet of health to get us started. Thanks.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

In the real world, sure. Everybody knows the rarity system in 5e is bonkers, with items giving flight once cost ten times an item granting continuous flight and so on. What people disagree on is whether that's a problem or not. The only (sane, thus the title of this thread) way to price magic...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

There was use for gold back then. It was xp. But you're basing this on rarity, when it should be based on utility. It's sort the whole premise of the thread (though I admit the endless bickering might have made me mix this thread up with older similar threads).
