What do you want out of Character sheet?

This is a great philosophy until someone remembers they left their vorpal blade on the other 3x5. Less snarky, there are other reasons to have physical character sheets than that list. They can provide inspiration and instant reference, for example.

Need Recommendations for Deep, Campaign-Friendly Sci-Fi / Modern TTRPGs

Agreed, given that there is a system called Fudge with uses custom d6s. Gumshoe is a system that uses d6s and arguably fudges with things. It works for modern adventure but does not have levels.

Of course, there might be reasons why this NPC has such a power ... which I would probably be more interested in than whatever quest was presented.

There is a false assertion in the way that the quantum ogre is presented. Most people who are against railroading state that the choice is "encounter the ogre" vs or "encounter nothing." But it can be just as creatively framed: "fight the ogre" vs "parlay with the ogre" vs "avoid the ogre" (or...

Surely there is a spectrum between zero choice and 100% choice that is mutually enjoyable to the players and GM.

    Rules Light Modern RPG

Any of a number of Gumshoe games. Night's Black Agents can handle modern espionage or thriller as well as it does monster hunting.

Did the game end while you were attempting to stop the ritual, or did it happen off screen because the villains were ready but you were not? end

I am curious to know how many people have played in a campaign (not a one-shot) that ended - or at least changed dramatically - because the PCs didn't act to stop Nyarlathotep when they needed to. Not that they tried and died, but they essentially ignored the timetable. Or to use another idea...

    Collectivism in Gaming

We (2 players and a visiting child out of a group of 7) host and try to have communal snacks. Everyone brings their own lunch as desired, and sometimes communal snacks. Although we have our own D&D Beyond subscription, the DM provides us access through his campaign. Everyone has their own dice.

I see "antagonism" as some sort of active push back against a decision the party is making. Perhaps it's not the best word to use. In the case of the quantum ogre, however, the GM has already decided that it will be lurking where the party goes - so it's not a response to their decision making...

This is my textbook example of railroading. I think it requires GM antagonism [perhaps the better word is proactivity?]

A - For me railroading would be the players were given/accepted the task to protect the duke, and decide to walk the other way when they hear there is an attack ongoing. Then you say the path out of town is suddenly blocked. The technique later in the paragraph is a perfect way to cut through...

    Relationship Maps in Adventure Paths

They are dungeons for interpersonal relationships. In a game with a strong locational focus it is a second axis of play.

    What is Willpower?

In Delta Green Willpower is sort of a hit point value for consciousness. As a skill I would use it to resist torture or similar effects.

Fantasy Wargaming (Bruce Galloway) – Anybody remember this "classic"?

One reason it was well distributed is that it was a sci-fi book club selection. I remember being impressed by the real-world discussion but at the time I was 13.

IF illusionism is defined as "encounter X lies at the end of both forks in the road" there can still be plenty of choice in how the PCs handle the encounter. When a GM wants an encounter to happen, I am willing to stipulate that this is because they think it will be cool. A GM should be given...

Even Night's Black Agents if they want to hunt vampires.
