D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Good fight choreography. I don't have Max (or whatever they're calling it now) so I've never watched GoT. But yeah, when your enemy is down and it's a fight to the death skip the monologue.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

One of the few movies I remember showing spears as effective weapons was Troy, see below. Other scenes show spears being the main weapon of the armies, although of course they just run at each other in a loose group instead of having any battle tactics and formation but that's movie battles for...

The point I was replying to has to do with raw materials. Iron is an input into the raw material for steel, it is in not steel. Whether or not a wizard could sit down at a forge and make steel the old fashioned way does not mean they understand how they are transforming the iron into steel...

You only highlighted the fabricate spell unless I missed it. If a single spell throws the entire economic system into turmoil (I don't think it does for the reasons I explained), then change the spell. But yes, I do think it's pretty much impossible to really know how the economy would work...

If a spell is that problematic for you and causes so many problems ban the spell. Personally I think if you apply significant restrictions it's not an issue. You still need the raw materials, steel doesn't just grow on trees. So a big part of the expense is raw materials needed for the spell...

Which is fine, I was just curious how it actually works. Do you use a supplement or house rules? If you don't have time to go into details that's fine ... I'm just always looking for new ideas even if they aren't worth it for my current campaign.

Are you an economist with a minor in medieval studies or similar? It doesn't matter to me what you do in your game, but more granularity doesn't necessarily mean more accuracy. Especially when you start throwing in things like other species, magic and a hundred other things that D&D assumes is...

Beyond "This is a trade city because it's on a river that opens into the ocean" or "Being close to the dwarven mines, this city is a distribution point trading finely made goods and refined ore for consumables the dwarves don't have" how often does it matter? Much like I think about climate on a...

I think of a GP like a $20 bill (or a bit more because of inflation nowadays). The average person would have at most 10 or so, if you want more you have to encounter the equivalent of a Brinks truck. It also depends on the assumed wealth level, many economies worked primarily on a barter or...

If DMs think the characters have too much gold, isn't the solution simply to not give them as much? I fail to see the issue here. If you're running a published module you are free to adjust it as you see fit. I don't personally see giving the characters a reasonable amount of gold and things...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

There is no way to "tackle" this complaint because people have been repeating the same complaint ad nauseum for most editions of D&D. Meanwhile fighters have always been and continue to be a popular class. It's not like you're lacking more complex characters in D&D but it depends on the...

    D&D General Perception vs Investigation

From the 2024 PHB Investigation: Find obscure information in books, or deduce how something works. Perception: Using a combination of senses, notice something that’s easy to miss. Along with actions you can take include Search and Study, with the details in the glossary. For search action...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

If Draw Steel works better for you and the people you play with, then you should play it instead of ignoring the people who say they like the fighter as is. Because it always comes back to "some people say". Well, some people say a lot of things and the fighter isn't for everyone. I like...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

If you believe #1 there are likely multiple classes and builds you wouldn't want to play. Fortunately there are subclasses or other classes that have more options. Personally it's not an issue for me, when playing a fighter I focus on other things and there are always options for shoving...

    D&D General Games Economies

There are a lot of thrill seekers out there who do dangerous things just for the thrill of it. In my games most characters are doing it because there's some goal other than personal wealth. That could be vengeance, stopping something, trying to recover lost secrets or any number of things.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I think paladin's steeds are underpowered to the point of being useless a level or two after you first get the ability to summon them. So as a house rule, I give them HD and proficiency bonus equal to the paladin's level. If a discussion about mounts come up I may mention it. But I won't call...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

At what point does it not become D&D if it simply shares a lot with WOTC's (or TSR's since it's general means it's not 5E specific) D&D? Does Daggerheart qualify? PF 2? I don't have an issue with bringing in supplements or other games. Just be clear about it.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I can't imagine how much confusion, delay and page flipping that would cause in my game. Also, of course, along with the whole "there are always weapons lying around even when fighting a monster that doesn't use weapons" amongst others.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I don't care what rules you bring up. But if I'm discussing a house rule, a rule I got from a supplement, a different game or even an idea I got from a video game I will say where I got it from. You aren't just bringing up other games though. You repeatedly call anything you've read or use...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Several feats only work with specific weapons, unless you're now saying that if I pick up a crossbow I now have crossbow expertise, a quarterstaff and I have polearm master? Because that just makes it significantly more complicated for minimal benefit.
