D&D General Weapons should break left and right

But even those randomized spells would have different effects. It's more like casting burning hands and randomly picking which die and how many will be rolled for damage. Sometimes it's 3d6 fire, sometimes it's 2d8 cold. Woohoo.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

With 2024 they added weapon mastery. Which means that depending on the situation my barbarian may want to use a greatsword because it does damage even on a miss or my warhammer because I want to push people around the battlefield. If I didn't care about carrying multiple large weapons I'd add...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

It's a shake up that provides no real benefit and has no significant justification. The fighter is still going to pick up a weapon and roll to hit, all that's changing is that you've added overhead, complexity, made fighters less effecting and assumed that there is always a weapon handy.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

If they use the core mechanics of D&D 5e, they are supplements. If they are their own standalone games they are not D&D. I don't care about the "legal sense", I'm not putting anything on a pedestal, people like all sorts of different games and many of the supplements are very high quality. I'm...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

WOTC made 5e, other companies created what amounts to professionally made home-brew rules. Those rules may be amazing and better than 5E for some people, but they are still supplements. I don't have any problem with that, I think it's a great thing and I use Tome of Beasts and a few other...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I have a player who has been playing D&D for years and running a rogue for over a year. They still ask questions about sneak attack at least once per session. Occasionally we used to remind him about steady aim, but I've given up. I'm regularly reminding other players how their characters work...

    D&D General Games Economies

I think people get way too concerned about money. My solution is fairly simple, gold coins are about the size of a dime not a dubloon and alchemists have devalued gold. Transforming lead to gold isn't free but it still happens. That along with not giving out gobs of gold, having a limited...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I do think it made a point though. The swords broke because it was a narrative turning point. A weapon breaking should have reason and be impactful. Breaking "left and right" is not that, it's not particularly realistic, doesn't improve verisimilitude as far as I'm concerned nor does it sound...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

If it didn't work they could easily switch to something else. But it's obvious that no amount of evidence to the contrary is going to change anything so I don't see a point arguing about it.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

According to WotC, people are pretty happy with the fighter. I'm happy with the fighter, people I play with are happy with them. I'm not going to argue about this any more.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

All I can say is that I enjoy playing fighters now and then, so have several of my players. Those that don't ever play fighters are probably going to play yet another wizard or whatever their favorite class is. If fighter were that lacking I suspect there would have been bigger changes in the...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

If you get rid of every simple option you end up with no alternatives. I know that the single most popular class is fighter. Why would so many people play a class they don't like? I am allowed to respond to parts of a post not directed at me, Maxperson doesn't have me blocked.

Then it's a good thing you have options.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Specific blades done at specific moments for dramatic effect under very unusual circumstances. I don't know the story behind the first, but Excalibur broke because it was symbolically representing the fracture of Arthur's ideals of chivalry, loyalty, and the destruction of his kingdom...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

First, that's a monk. Second, why did he drop his perfectly good knife? If a player wants to do this? Play a monk. Perhaps take the tavern brawler feat where you have proficiency with all improvised weapons and don't mess with weapons. I remember watching the old McGyver TV show. McGyver is...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

So you just talked about how the discussion was had and the people's voices were heard in design and now you're telling me that a class and build I like to play sucks? You don't see the irony there? If you think the base fighter sucks, there are plenty of other classes and subclasses to choose...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Sometimes I want to play a barbarian sometimes I want to play a champion fighter. I gave my reasons. Why do you want to limit people's options to your preferred build?

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

From a complexity standpoint I'm adding in tracking superiority dice, when to use it, what die to use. From a story perspective I'm relying on what I consider a metagame mechanic unrelated to the in-game story of the character. I see no reason in fiction of the world for my BM to only be able...

D&D General Charisma Checks gone Horribly Wrong - Can you Relate?

I don't expect players of a charismatic character to be a professional actor. Meanwhile if it's an important social interaction the player does have to make it clear what they are saying and how. I encourage and prefer that they play it out but they can also speak in third person or simply...
