    D&D 5E (2014) Variant 5e?

Exhaustion definitely is a tough one to get rid of. If you get knocked down you kinda proved your HP let you down already. Martial classes are more likely to put a score in constitution that is higher than 14. In addition to that they are the ones most frequently attacked. High AC and sometimes...

    D&D 5E (2014) Variant 5e?

I’m not sure this would make it harder. Aside from the HP thing. Recovering would be more onerous sure but the players would just re-emphasize magical healing. High level would be almost the same again excepting HP. They would be down 2-3 HP per level. Martial classes would take it on the chin...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighter Non-Combat Ability Brainstorm

That’s not a scar, this is a scar! The fighter can fascinate/distract one person (or a number equal to proficiency) by getting them to compare scars. (This can take up to one minute per level) at the end of the time the fighter gains advantage on one charisma based check to influence...

D&D 5E (2014) What Seven Classes Would You Keep? (and why!)

Save room just have one spell list. I was thinking the same thing. It would open the door for mistic class whose subclasses could be Monk and Psion. Powers not spells. Warlock could be the anti-paladin, warlock and summoner.

D&D 5E (2014) What Seven Classes Would You Keep? (and why!)

I recently started a campaign and only allowed the following classes. Bard Druid Fighter Rogue Warlock Sorcerer These classes I felt were the most likely to gain magic. Druids went underground (literally). Warlocks encountered or were enlisted by patrons. Bards snooped around and gathered all...

    TSR Lorraine Williams, unfairly lambasted?

Unfairly lambasted? Nah. Arguably the most recognized RPG brand (beloved by fans) and years at the helm. Not a gamer and not good at business. In fact those same business practices had a negative impact on the entire industry. WotC turned it around. They did it quickly and in turn caused...

D&D 5E (2014) Which Class is "The Best" - Your chance to VOTE!

I selected Fighter and Rogue. All of them are okay.....except paladins.

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the polearm and taking back its seat as generally best nonprojectile weapon from the sword.

I do play 5e. I use crits. I just don’t mess with the range to protect the Champion Fighter.

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the polearm and taking back its seat as generally best nonprojectile weapon from the sword.

Not for me, is my initial reaction. Is it a blanket crit range or circumstantial? I could be persuaded for something like that.

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the polearm and taking back its seat as generally best nonprojectile weapon from the sword.

I wouldn’t muck around with crit ranges. I try not to step on the champion’s toes. Maybe add a crit die or a small kicker like an extra d4. But If that were the case orc and 1/2 orc barbarians would be wielding spears and terrifying.

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the polearm and taking back its seat as generally best nonprojectile weapon from the sword.

I would fix their damage. d8/d10 if their was a war spear it would be d12. And/Or Give it give it the property of “defensive reach”. Granting a +1 shield bonus. When wielded with two hands or in one hand with no weapon or shield in the other hand. This is a fantasy game though so swords being...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

How about modifying the fighter’s action surge? I know action surge is slappy in combat but hear me out. Movement: starting the round that the fighter uses action surge the fighters movement speed increases by 5x their proficiency modifier. (Deadpool’s maximum effort) That means at first...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

I would say dump the 7th level fighter subclass stuff. It’s trash. Give them something good or great. At 5th they got a second attack. (Nice) their buddies got Third level spells. Then sixth they get an ASI. Between the two they caught up to third level spells IMO as far as fun is concerned. But...

D&D General Compelling and Differentiated Gameplay For Spellcasters and Martial Classes

One thing I try to include is an environmental boon that is better than a weapon attack but not as good as a level appropriate spell. I try to give the players the hint that it is there usually a visual clue on the mat. They can decide to use it or not.

D&D General Compelling and Differentiated Gameplay For Spellcasters and Martial Classes

I think one of the barriers to martial classes being able to pull off some clutch play is the core mechanics. HP are not a hindrance to casters. If fighters could target spellcaster’s fingers, eyes or mouths fights would end. Imagine if a fighter and a wizard were engaged in battle on an ice...

D&D 5E (2014) How far away can a person make perception checks?

I am in agreement with Campbell. I would add that perception is a terrible design. It is way past abstract. Grossly overused and ubiquitous in it’s proficiency. It is so ingrained in the game that it is inescapable. With that said. So much goes into seeing you have more considerations that you...

D&D 5E (2014) PHB Errata Nerf Unarmed Strikes!? WHY??? :(

I am likely to ignore this. As I usually ignore errata. If someone DMing for me enforces such a rule that’s fine. I have better things to do.

D&D General Positive Stories of Faith from Your Campaigns

Plane shift could take everyone home except one. The reformed assassin volunteered to stay in hell until they could come back for her. Time flow...
