Check Out CURSE OF STRAHD'S Table of Contents!

There were no Dark Powers checks in the original adventure. This adventure has almost nothing to do with Ravenloft the Campaign Setting.

D&D's Lead Increases; Stars Without Number Surges In Latest Orr Group Report

The increase in percentage of 5e games almost exactly matches the combined decrease in Pathfinder and 3.5.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Conan in 5e?

Yep. Tarzan is a D&D barbarian, Conan is not.

D&D 5E (2014) How cognizant are you of the rules of the game?

This is inarguably true, and it is reflected in all fantasy fiction. Like how those worthless hobbits were left behind in Bree to be mugged before they cried their way back to the Shire. And then that Gimli, offering his axe! Sheesh, what was that, a battleaxe? Get a shield, or use a greataxe...

    So This Just Arrived...

Indeed. I've been planning to reskin the non-human races to make them exotic varieties of people, not much more different from regular folks than those of Atlantean descent (who are still considered "human"). The Imystrahlim may be more slender and of paler skin than most, but they aren't...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Another New Ranger Variant

Yeah, maybe. When I first read the rule I interpreted it as meaning one could only take an action on the special turn, not a bonus action or a move, and that action was limited to Attack or Hide. After reviewing it I realize I read into it what made sense to me, and I would definitely rule it...

Cast a Spell is not one of the allowed actions on the Ambuscade turn.

So, What's The Challenge Rating Of All Those Demon Lords?

Oh, I was talking about the 1e Monster Manual. Are those the 5e stats? Sounds pretty wicked.

So, What's The Challenge Rating Of All Those Demon Lords?

Yeenoghu was in the original Monster Manual, along with Juiblex. And Juiblex was a chump, the least powerful of the demon lords in that book. I think it's appropriate that he's still relatively weak.

D&D 5E (2014) Spell Preparation: Leaving Slots Open

No, you don't prepare individual spells, you prepare a list of spells. When you change the list, you aren't preparing some spells to change and leaving the rest alone. You can think of it that way in the game if you'd like, but the rules don't speak of it that way. You prepare a new list, which...

D&D 5E (2014) Spell Preparation: Leaving Slots Open

That wasn't the nature of the point under discussion, but you're right about this, I was being liberal in my reading of the RAW. Interpreted strictly, you can only change your spell list just as you finish a long rest. As you said, I would house rule that as something like "once between long rests".

D&D 5E (2014) Spell Preparation: Leaving Slots Open

Please reread what I wrote. You don't need to wait until the next day to change your spell list, if you haven't changed it since your last long rest. Unlike 3e and prior, you don't have to prepare/memorize the list every day; you can keep your list from the previous day, then change it if you...

New D&D Monthly Survey: Mystics & Psionics

I thought this was interesting: So they do consider Kara-Tur and Zakhara part of the Forgotten Realms setting, and not as entirely separate things. (It was unclear when Kara-Tur showed up in the survey but Al-Qadim didn't.) Which means... even if all they support in published adventures is...

D&D 5E (2014) Spell Preparation: Leaving Slots Open

Right, you only spend the time to prepare when changing the list of prepared spells. The terminology is throwing people off, as others have noted. A caster has slots used to cast prepared spells, but a caster does not prepare spells in slots. A caster prepares one, single thing: a list of...

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

That's a good question. Here's the deal, from my PoV. Calling something "doublespeak" (a word which is doublespeak for "lies") is something you can do based on facts. If a company representative tells you "Smoking is good for you, it doesn't cause lung cancer!", you can call them on it. You can...

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

Who ever said that WotC claimed, or should claim, full credit for any of these products? You're making a straw-man argument; no one said anything like that. IMO, they've been very generous in promoting the small companies they're working with, compared to how most companies handle this kind of...

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

Ah, so you didn't say this in your first post to this thread? And you didn't use the term "doublespeak" at least twice more after that? Using your preferred sources of dictionary.reference.com: and Merriam-Webster: So your're right, you did avoid using the word "liar". But who's engaging...

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

You should review your history. WotC, and TSR before them, used freelancers on a lot of products. Among many others, perhaps you've heard of Ed Greenwood, Keith Baker, Erik Mona, James Jacobs, or Jason Bulmahn, all of whom wrote for TSR/WoTC when they weren't employed there? And I'm not even...

[UPDATED] A Savage D&D 5E Campaign Setting From the Makers of PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE

Some of that. There are equipment changes: plate armor doesn't exist, and steel is generally hard to come by. Magic isn't changed, but is rare, so your wizard PC works normally, but is one of maybe a handful of arcane magic-users in a large city.

[UPDATED] A Savage D&D 5E Campaign Setting From the Makers of PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE

Yes! I backed the earlier Kickstarter and got PDFs of all three versions, but decided against a hardcover since 5e was coming out. I was about to start on my own conversions, but they'll get my money for a physical book now!
