When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

TTJRPGs (since in Japan they also used the term TTRPG - though there the TT is short for "Table Talk")

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

Well, partly with JRPGs we're getting more Japanese tabletop RPGs translated into English - so it makes for a good mark of differentiation (as well as an indicator of whether a tabletop game is using game mechanics influenced by Japanese tabletop games.)

2024 Player's Handbook Officially Live on D&D Beyond

Actually, I see what they're going for here - they're going for a "Polar Bear"+"Dragon" vibe, and it kinda works.

Those MP recovery rules are harsh.

    AD&D 2E On AD&D 2E

While I started playing in middle school in the early-to-mid '90s, my first game was using 1e. I didn't get into 2e until I got involved in the RPGA in the Raven's Bluff setting, but I generally spent the most time playing 2e through there - I then had a massive dry spell through most of 3e and...

Mongoose acquires Twilight 2000 and 2300 AD

I wonder what this is going to mean for the Free League Twilight 2000 game.

D&D General Gold Protected by Poisonous Creatures

I'd go with having the jar not be particularly airtight (and also with small enough holes that the bugs can't get out of them - maybe including bugs that could crawl up to the underside of the lid - allowing a perception check to notice the bottom of the lid had some of the bugs on them. If...

D&D General Gold Protected by Poisonous Creatures

If they're normal sized insects, I'd agree to run it as a trap, with the player(s) having to describe how they're getting past or rid of the insects.

    D&D 5E (2014) Pick Thy Apocalypse

In Magic: The Gathering - Dominaria had a magical nuclear apocalypse in the form of Urza detonating the Golgothian Sylex at the conclusion of The Brothers' War, complete with a magical nuclear winter.

And we didn't get all of them back - I still haven't gotten my OG Gangbusters back.

D&D General Not the Wicked Witch: Revisiting the Legacy of Lorraine Williams

Yeah, I ended up stumbling across a used copy of Creative Campaigning at Powell's, and later got it signed by Janelle Jaquays at PRGE (I couldn't find my copy of Quake 2)

Did You Back a Million Dollar TTRPG Kickstarter? How's The Game?

I backed Tales of the Valiant - it looks good, but I haven't had a chance to run it yet.

D&D General Not the Wicked Witch: Revisiting the Legacy of Lorraine Williams

I should clarify my viewpoint about Lorraine Williams a little bit. I intensely dislike her, but it's a dislike at the level I have for Phil Ballmer, or other corporate executives whose actions, while beneficial to their company, were harmful to the industry (and in this instance art form at...

D&D General Not the Wicked Witch: Revisiting the Legacy of Lorraine Williams

The OGL itself was fine - and if TSR hadn't been so litigious it probably would still have come about. Two of the reasons for it to exist were making sure D&D could never die, and helping to encourage third party publishers to make the kind of content that didn't necessarily make a lot of money...

D&D General Not the Wicked Witch: Revisiting the Legacy of Lorraine Williams

Well, I thought I was out, but I do have a slight clarification - there were two TSR vs. Mayfair Games cases. The initial one for the Role Aids line, in 1984, was pre-Williams and the settlement from that case set conditions for which Mayfair could state on the packaging that those products were...

D&D General Not the Wicked Witch: Revisiting the Legacy of Lorraine Williams

Before I bow out myself, one final point about the lawsuits. The lawsuits that TSR filed under Lorraine Williams time as head of the company - particularly the ones against GDW and Mayfair Games, left deep lingering scars on the RPG industry. If those lawsuits had not happened, the OGL would...

D&D General Not the Wicked Witch: Revisiting the Legacy of Lorraine Williams

And the lawsuits are in none of those buckets - that's my very strong objection. Because those happened, and Shannon Appelcline documented those extensively in Designers & Dragons in the entries for New Infinities Productions, GDW, and Mayfair Games. Plus the Cease & Desist letters sent out...
