GMs: Where and When Do You Run Games

We usually play at a house. Sometimes we can't play at a home, so we play at our FLGS: Heretic Games 442 San Mateo Ave, San Bruno, CA 94066, which is the next best thing.

D&D General Favorite Less Used Low CR Creatures?

This is not found in official MM, but I like the Thoul. A good BBEG for 1st/2nd level.

D&D 5E (2014) For those playing 2014 5e, how are you reacting to the 2024 update?

There's been no talk of 2024 at our table. I'm not even sure the other players are aware it exists. I doubt we'll make the switch. I have a minor concern that the new adventures will work with the 5e 2014 game. My guess is that it wouldn't be problem.

GMs: How Much Do You Curate Your Adventures To Your Specific PCs, Mechanically Speaking

[note: I've only ran various editions of D&D games and DCC games] When I run a game, I let the players know what kind of adventure(s) that I plan to use, and I run the adventure as planned regardless of the Characters created. The adventures that I have always picked assumes that the party is...

D&D 5E (2014) A Middling DM Runs Curse of Strahd

Character Vs Character/Betrayal I should’ve addressed this in session 0, especially with Curse of Strahd since one of Strahd’s tactics is to turn the party against themselves. But I haven’t done that, so I’ll be addressing this next session. This is just me writing down my thoughts. Nothing is...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Pop up ads on enworld My tires always being under inflated in the winter. People giving me advice about what to do about my tires. Super bowl, ok everything surrounding the super bowl. The game itself is fine. Award ceremonies. Including the ones where I've gotten an award. The only people who...

    How often do you play?

We play in-person, so scheduling is a pain. Our intention is to play weekly, but I went with Bi-weekly because that's roughly the average. Currently on a month-long break because I'm taking a class.

    D&D 5E (2014) Handling Morale Checks

I miss having a morale rating in the monster stat block. It was a quick way to get a sense of how brave/foolish a monster is.

D&D General Chris Perkins and Stan! - previous D&D edition thoughts

Yeah, I'm happy to hear they're hinting at trying new stuff. I might not like the end result, but there's plenty of 3rd party content out there if I don't like the official WOTC stuff.

D&D General Chris Perkins and Stan! - previous D&D edition thoughts

but... but... I'll feel much less guilty as a DM if character creation was easier after I kill them. ;)

D&D General Chris Perkins and Stan! - previous D&D edition thoughts

Just watch the video. The first 50 minutes or so is Chris talking about his past. The conversation turns to the various editions after that. I just want to add that character creation for 5e does not take anywhere close to ten minutes.

How likely are you to use D&D for your next game?

Currently running 5e 2014 for Curse of Strahd. I doubt our group will ever switch to 5e 2024.

D&D 5E (2014) A Middling DM Runs Curse of Strahd

The Death House (Durst Manor) itself is a great adventure. Although the set up for it, as written in the book, is very railroad-y and not very good IMO. The players have the choice of entering the house or choked to death in the mist, which is not much of a choice. For a one-shot this is fine...

D&D 5E (2014) A Middling DM Runs Curse of Strahd

Yes, I moved it east of the village of Barovia so that it was the first major thing that the party encountered. I also changed the background a bit. I got the ideas from 'Raising the Stakes' PDF, which I am using. It provides a bunch of tweaks to Curse of Strahd. You can find these ideas on the...

D&D 5E (2014) A Middling DM Runs Curse of Strahd

The Durst Manor Conclusion and the Village of Barovia. Previously: The House The Gang had unearthed some of the dark secrets of the Durst family’s past. The residents of Durst Manor had resorted to rituals of bloodletting and cannibalism in hopes of gaining extended or eternal life. There was...
