Good. Glad you and everyone else enjoyed it. It just rubbed me the wrong way due to my own peculiarities, which is one of the many reasons I'm not part of WotC's target audience anymore. (But then, my relationship to D&D has always been ... idiosyncratic, not being a real fan of 1E/OSR...

I'm too attached to the 2nd Edition setting, and the changes and additions felt gratuitous (e.g., dusk elves and Mordenkainen), contrived (Madam Eva as Strahd's half-sister), and/or overly bleak (large numbers of soulless Barovians), and a read through suggested little worth mining.

5E lost me, Curse of Strahd (the only 5E product I've bought) alienated me to the point I'm planning to sell it ... yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm not the target audience anymore.

Depends on the school and the curriculum. I suspect Gygax and Ward were familiar with it, if only because of mentions of Dis, Geryon and Malebolge in the MM; Greenwood (or whoever mapped out the 'official' Nine Hells) was either less so or took liberties, with misspelling Caina as "Cania" and...

I thought WotC's motto was more "One ruleset to rule them all, one play style to bind them, one game to bring them all and to Organized Play bind them." ;)

Calling it now: 6E will be the first edition of the game to focus on Evil PCs. ;) :p

Speaking only for myself, I didn't stop watching TBBT because I found their handling of 'geek subjects' offensive … I stopped watching it because I realized I didn't particularly like any of these people. (Now, some of the plot points with Sheldon's mother? Those I found mildly offensive.)

Champions definitely merits a nod for the move from 'take what the dice give you' to 'build the type of character you want to play.'

If memory serves, it was that work that got him into He-Man--Filmation was looking for people who knew fantasy. And the Isle of Darksmoke mentioned above? He reused the name and the dragon Granamyr in "The Dragon's Gift," one of the most beloved episodes of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

You'd know much better than I would, but I always had the impression Pulling was comparatively secular, as opposed to the rest of those involved in the scare. Am I mistaken?
