Do Magic Item "Shops" wreck the spirit of D&D?

Frankly, the idea that NO ONE would EVER want a floating shield strains believability to the breaking point. How many thousands of years have humans been using shields and magic? How long have the Elves been using shields and magic? The Dwarves? Magic items don't wear out. They get lost...

    The PCs ditched the McGuffin...

Let's see: The good guys are going to flag the PCs as "Evil--heartless, inhuman betrayers of the light. Shoot on sight." Bad guys: Lose interest. Dragon: Want to know where the McGuffin is. Dragon with the McGuffin: Now executing Evil Plan # 459 to expand power base. PCs can live with that...

You are D&D's Bible Keeper - What do you do?

[Silly, everyone knows munchkins come in villages, not handfuls!] On that note: -Hire intelligent, competent, power-gamers to create a book of NPCs using the core material with suggested selections from other books as "If you have Y, replace A with B from book X. If you have book Y...". The...

    Magic Item Compendium

Personally, a RESTRICTION like that is distasteful to me. More, smaller items being more effective, well, that's up to the PCs to decide. I go with 1/2 wealth.

    I would play a bard if. . .

Explain, please? Summon spells, Cure spells, Darkness, Silence, Sculpt Sound, Glitterdust, Invisibility, the Remove spells...they have all kinds of useful spells to choose from.

Why don't more people play high level campaigns? 13th+

I agree. People keep saying this and never really explain. Also, I th\ink the lack of decent NPC stat blocks from WotC is ridiculous. The ones in the DMG *AND* the PHB 2 are...well, silly. They are not good. In a fantasy game, that's not a problem. :D

Andy Collins: "Most Magic Items in D&D Are Awful"

I don't carry the body parts, those go in the bag of holding on my flying carpet.

Andy Collins: "Most Magic Items in D&D Are Awful"

Which is exactly why you'll see new and different useful items made, not useless crap or the same thing that's been made for 5000 years (i.e. Heward's Handy Haversacks, flying items, magic swords, cloaks of resistance, etc.) because there's already enough of those around. Or there should be.

Andy Collins: "Most Magic Items in D&D Are Awful"

That's amazing. 20,000gp spent in like six hours. 90% of people make less than that in ten lifetimes. Most of it on Red Dragon Steaks. Which is a concept so inane I can hardly believe it. And not-that-old-to-elves-Elven Wine. Blackmail material? For 20,000 gp, I think a more...thrifty...

Andy Collins: "Most Magic Items in D&D Are Awful"

God, yes. Heward's Handy Haversack, and a supply of 10' poles, 250' of rope, caltrops, alchemist's fire, lamp oil, clay jugs of water, and a climber's kit all go in it ASAP.

[Goblins] Is that an adventurer's room or what?

No. That's not an adventurers room. If it was, that hill giant's weapon should be sundered (and therefore okay to use as a keepsake) or sold for money. Same for the orc blade.

    I would play a bard if. . .

You're forgetting Scribe Scroll and Use Magic Device. Bardic Music IS nice. It is powerful. But I'm a spellcasting kinda person. If I had leadership and a buncha low level barbarians with greatswords, I could go for using Bardic Music. Which, as my brother has enlightened me, I would take...

    I would play a bard if. . .

Of course I would play a Bard. Scouting skills, unique spell list, UMD, bardic knowledge, talky skills, and who can forget healing spells? It's a great combination. Although, I think I would not use Bardic Music. People see it as the main feature of the class for some reason.

Chessex Mondomat - Factory Second quality.

I was afraid of this also. But I got mine maybe a year ago and am hard pressed to notice any difference, except some areas have a slightly darker creamy color than others. But it looks good. Edit: Treebore: I looked at the Chessex website www.chessex.com and you have to call their people to...
