Great deal! 1" maps, yep. This map pack is the best deal that basically no one seems to know about. I love them and use them all the time. The swamp, beach, and forest map are particularly useful.

This is exactly right IMO. 4/5 PC can make a difference certainly. And if in doubt, significantly lower the monsters HP if needed - it'll make the combat much faster than lowering the monsters' damage. Making it easy at first is not a bad idea for any beginning player, but especially a kid...

Agreed. Hands down, this is the best place on the web to learn how to play D&D. Without Enworld I'm not sure where I'd be with D&D right now - possibly not playing - which means my son and the 20+ kids I play with wouldn't be playing either. Good work building new players everyone!

I don't understand why I, the DM, would roll random treasure in preparation. I just assign appropriate treasure where I see fit. However, I love to have players roll this random treasure in-game. This is fun.
