    Ritual Revamp... thoughts?

I like the concept, minus the rituals that would then become over-powered. I allow PC's to harvest parts of their magical enemies to make into ritual components. I first gave a value too high, but then quickly learned and scaled it back quite a bit. For example, after killing a troll, the PC...

    Leveling monsters without Monster Builder

Really - is this correct? I thought it was subscription/password protected. If not, then a one month subscription is the best deal ever created. I suppose they hope to keep you subscribed through updates. But with all the info out there now, there is plenty enough for what I need.

Have your RPG character come to life

Good luck with your character drawings. I have been DM'ing for ESL students in Korea. It has gone amazingly well. I have one special class with two kids plus my son - here is their info for your inspiration/consideration. Are you asking us to send you their DDI/Character Builder sheet --...

Why the Modern D&D variants will not attract new players

This year alone, I've taught 20+ kids how to play D&D -- almost all are Koreans with varying degrees of English proficiency, ages 10-15. It's not too hard. What is lost through the confusion is gained through interesting gameplay. I do agree with the specific point that the character sheet is...

D&D is now in (exceedingly awesome) commercial form

I'm glad that Pawsplay is out of his D&D closet. There aren't many openly gay D&D players and I wish there were more.

    Making Natural 20 super fun

I think a lot of people agree with Moxcamel (with a name like that, who wouldn't?). My games only have 2~4 players (small ESL classes that play D&D once/week), so they crit less. Maybe running a game of 5 or 6 PC's might make me agree with you. However in practice, I haven't seen any...

D&D is now in (exceedingly awesome) commercial form

I *really* don't want my comments above to start edition warring. I only meant to point out my personal experience going from AD&D directly to 4e - especially if that is what the intended target audience is for this commercial.

D&D is now in (exceedingly awesome) commercial form

good post. Interestingly, I'm the type of person you are talking about. I played daily for a few years in the 80's (AD&D, not the Red Box), then I sort of just stopped as my DM brother moved out of the house and life changed. I started playing again only last Christmas when I ordered a ton of...

D&D is now in (exceedingly awesome) commercial form

Again, lots of varying opinions. I feel that most of the anger/disappointment for this ad falls in either one of three camps: 1) you love D&D and wish there were better outreach. You are frustrated with the lack of new players and WOTC's lack of ability to get new players. You feel that this...

Will there be another DDM set in 2011?

I just received my box of about 70 singles (lots of multiples for the Zhent minis, orcs, city guards, etc). With shipping to Korea, it cost about $70. I stayed away from most minis that cost more than a couple bucks (a few exceptions). For this cheap price, I really loved the minis and feel...

D&D is now in (exceedingly awesome) commercial form

A lot of people are complaining: this is their plan??!! Of course, if this is the only way they are marketing it is not enough. There is no one-step marketing that would be enough. I hope there will be other various marketing strategies - I hope we'll see threads on them here, both Red Box...

D&D is now in (exceedingly awesome) commercial form

A lot of mixed replies. Much of what I want to say has already been said - mostly that WOTC has said that the Red Box is meant for new players, but also particularly the children of former players. Very few ads can work to all audiences. Some obviously don't care for this ad. I *LOVE* it so...

    Making Natural 20 super fun

Great, hope it helps. I'll tell you, there is a noticeable difference now when a 20 is rolled. There used be be a happiness, but now there is a lot more excitement around the table as everyone grabs for the d20 and stands up, leans over the table, waiting for the next roll. The main potential...

    Making Natural 20 super fun

The d20 I use is one of these monsters. It doesn't roll too well, but it's special none-the-less. I never let the players even touch this die unless it's for a Critical Hit Bonus Damage Roll.

    Making Natural 20 super fun

Above was for magic attacks, below is for weapon attacks. An arrow and an mace would obviously have different effects - I let the player tweak the description. Again, this is in use with many middle school kids so a few are slightly humorous. Critical Hit Bonus Damage Roll 1 Plus 1d6 damage /...

    Making Natural 20 super fun

I understand this is adding power to the PC - I'm not concerned about that. d20 attack rolls are rare enough that the effect is minimal. I DM many middle school age kids, so a few of the effects are slightly humorous. The effect of this bonus chart is awesome - when they roll the d20, there...

    Eberron Collector's Guide

That list is helpful - I'm considering buying/playing Eberron. But alas, it is also exceedingly daunting. It makes me want to keep my homebrew just a little. Where or where to start.....

Just how popular was DnD? Did kids really play it during lunch? (red box nostalgia)

Check out this story: I teach Korean middle school students and DM 20+ in several different games a week. One of my 7th grade students told me that "all" (me: "All?" / student: "Yes, all!") of the 40 kids in his class play D&D almost every day. Apparently he taught them this amazing game and...
