What to buy a 9 year old D&D playing son?

My son and I began playing D&D 4e in Dec 2009. He is now playing two different campaigns with two different friends - about 4 hrs/wk. I'm glad that we can do this together. It provides endless conversation topics and has helped to make us even closer. Furthermore, he's awesome as a player...

Fortune Cards: and randomized collectible cards come to D&D

I listened to the Gen Con introduction of 2011 products including these cards -- and it was said very clearly and specifically that these are not meant to be collected but to be *played*. It was said maybe four times that they are not collectible. They are random in order to make the use a lot...

    Am I mean?

I understand these thoughts a lot and they may be mostly correct. But if done right, I think it can work well. Like I said, I will try to make it work in my game. (again, if the scene isn't too time consuming) There have been tons of movies where the "hero" is over taken, but the manner in...

    Am I mean?

A slippery slope, my friend, and one that should generally be avoided if possible.

You All Meet In A Bar

Drinking is allowed after high school. But I'm certain the poster isn't thinking of opening this bar in Seoul, are you????? That would be pretty cool and I might actually visit (from Ulsan), but only if you had nights of pick-up games. It's hard to find enough gamers to get a real game...

You All Meet In A Bar

Exactly. Space needed and table turnover (meaning new customers, not D&D bar brawls) would be greatly hindered by a gaming bar. I love the concept, but there is no way I see this working, unfortunately. Making this part of the concept for a geek-themed bar is slightly more possible.

    Am I mean?

I wrote my last post before I read the other comments -- now I have a comment for you other posters: You're a bunch of weak-kneed pansies :D yeah, I'm talking to you, too. I do get the point that if done poorly, this could suck. but give the original poster some slack - possibly he could do...

    Am I mean?

LOVE IT! I might steal a variant for the new game I'm starting. Two of the three PC's have decided that they want to be the sons of slaves to a massive evil kingdom consisting of many races, but with a significant % of orc/ogres in the army. The 3rd PC will be a 1/2 ogre barbarian (my 9...

A Korean Prostitute's calling card (anyone know Korean)? - threadomanced

that's pretty funny.... I just assumed it was a recent thread. Went back and you're right - 2003. Well, it was put up 7 years ago, but no one really noticed it until recently.

A Korean Prostitute's calling card (anyone know Korean)? - threadomanced

That's what I've thought most about this thread. This foreign 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch paper ends up on some random US city. It's kept in a drawer for years. In a matter of days through the internet, there are no more mysteries.

A Korean Prostitute's calling card (anyone know Korean)? - threadomanced

UPDATE - BREAKING NEWS: OK, not too breaking. Alas, the number no longer exists. Probably has gone out of business. However, my wife (naturalized Korean-American) suggests that the place might have been closed for illegal activities. To her, she thinks this place is more than just a massage...

A Korean Prostitute's calling card (anyone know Korean)? - threadomanced

interesting - my son goes to HHI school and his best friend lives in your apartment complex. Interesting. Let's communicate via message here and see if it's feasible to run a game or even encounter. Either way, maybe we can get together for a drink or the like. Small world....

A Korean Prostitute's calling card (anyone know Korean)? - threadomanced

PLEASE ~ we need to get a game together! I haven't played in a game since the 80's. I've picked up the hobby again as a DM to teach ESL to kids here - it's been AWESOME... but I'd *love* to play in a game. I've posted here in the games wanted sections but not replies. But thanks to...

A Korean Prostitute's calling card (anyone know Korean)? - threadomanced

How about that, small world. I'm in Nam gu Dal dong "downtown" near Lotte Department store. Are you teaching? I've been teaching D&D to small classes. It's gone amazingly well.

El Mahdi ~ all the info I've posted doesn't relate to the bars around military bases. I've been in some of those as well and ElMahdi has described them correctly. Though he didn't mention the gay bars that can usually be found there now, although I don't think there is a sex industry involved...

A Korean Prostitute's calling card (anyone know Korean)? - threadomanced

I'm here now, in Ulsan, since 2008. I was here from '95-'00 in Pusan then Seoul. I've been to a blind masseuse. I can't imagine how much he would have had to pay me to have sex with him. But no, it wasn't a sex business. I've been to a "da bang 다방", and was like a dark bar where hostesses...

I'm on it! If only b/c I am in Korea and this finally makes me feel as if my time here, after a decade, *now* has a meaning. See, I just knew I was meant to come here. I Will update Sunday. Stay tuned for the breaking news.

A Korean Prostitute's calling card (anyone know Korean)? - threadomanced

Never thought I'd be able to add my insight on this topic on Enworld, but here goes: Living in Korea now, and have for almost a decade. My wife (now Korean-American) is a descendant of King SeJong, the "greatest" of the Korean Kings. He created the language Hangul in the 1400's to replace the...

Being more descriptive as a DM

Somebody mentioned closing your eyes - this will actually work and don't worry about feeling silly doing so. If it helps make you more descriptive, your players will be very glad you did so. You have 5 senses. Use at least two in your descriptions. The more important the setting, try to use...

GMing for the first time in 20+ years tomorrow!

Awesome! Let us know how it goes. I DM'd my first game in 20 years about 5 months ago. Now, I'm DM'ing 6 games a week (OK, it's part of an ESL teaching job, but still....). I love it and now wonder how I ever got away from it. I hope it goes well for you. Relax and have fun.
