I just watched the Character Sheet video on this and it seems kind of like a... nothing burger? Nothing has been announced. There's just a vague sense of mending fences.

Some general thoughts: 5th level DH characters can definitely pass for superheroes in a setting where they (and their villains) are the only powerful entities. A lot of it is imply embracing tropes, of course, but the ease with which some PCs can fly and how we can use Hope and Fear to steer...

I think the most interesting bit is how most of that growth is in the actual game as opposed to also with all the side stuff. I wonder if that is what fueled the discussions about monetization of the brand. But if that were the case, why was there never a real push to get the novel market back...

It feels weird that in less than 10 posts this thread turned into a defense of 2024 D&D, instead of discussing the ramp in popularity (and profit) of 2014 D&D and the things that might have influenced that.

When i moved I divested myself of 95% of my collection, giving it to a friend who is a convention organizer and sold some bits and gave away others as game prizes. I similarly gave away my comic collection a friend who is a teacher at a private school to go to the library.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE Dragonlance. And if I was 12 again, I imagine I would be ecstatic for a show. But DL does not really stand up to an even cursory critical examination.

I continue to be shocked that there is not a Drizzt (or however you spell it) show. I also continue to be sad that there is not a Arcane level quality Eberron animated series.

I meant in general. WoT is probably the biggest non-Tolkien fantasy ever (maybe Stormlight has surpassed in in sales?) and still could not hold an audience. I think GoT was an anomaly and DL would legit bomb no matter how good the production was because the story just isn't very good.

I don't know. If Wheel of Time could not make it work, I have serious doubts about DL.

Everything is printed out. As always with my con campaigns, the latter parts are very rough because what happens early will be important. But im super excited.

There has never been a time where you did not build your D&D character. You may have rolled your stats, but you picked your race and/or class, your weapons and whatever other elements were available depending on the edition. Character creation in D&D has never been totally random.
