Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

I don't particularly like D&D being a lifestyle brand -- but not because it is D&D. I just don't like "lifestyle brands" in general. No logo should be a major part of ones personality. But that's just preference. I don't care if other people embrace D&D as a lifestyle brand, or if (especially...

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

This came up in another thread and I wanted to spin it off for its own discussion. When talking about TTRPG mechanics and how the medium has evolved and advanced over the last 5 decades, are there specific sorts of mechanics that you consider more "modern" than others? Where do you draw the...

I know we are way off topic so I will just add: I downloaded demos for Octopath Traveler 2 and DragonQuest 11.

This thread has veered into an unexpected but super neat direction.

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

Thanks for an on the ground view, as it were. It is too bad we can't see actual numbers. I would be really interested to know how many copies of whatever the newest adventure is, versus the total number of core rules sold over time. My gut says a bigger player base should be able to support...

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

It wasn't controversial. We were having a discussion. I was curious what innovations in tactical play you considered modern. Then you got coy.

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

I think that position is undermined by the presence of some pretty high profile non WotC stuff on Beyond. I mean, WotC could do whatever they want. They could also not engage in the performative "playtesting" they use as marketing. There are millions more loyal WotC customers now than there...

That is not a customer problem, that is a WotC problem. Liek all big companies subject to investors, they are risk averse, so they churn out he same stuff over and over again. "Allowed." Right...

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

Yeah, sorry, in my head I was in the specific X-Com thread when I responded. I do think zones are great for a different style of tactical play. I am not so sure about "narrative" since I am not sure how that differs from "theater of the mind." Of course, different games, campaigns and moods...

D&D General Friday Fun: Now THIS Is D&D Rock!

SImple rules: change one or two words in a song title to make it about D&D or D&D adjacent things. Examples: Master of Mimics, The Ghoul of Tom Joad, Waterdhavian Rhapsody. Like that. Go.

We really need a AI tag

That's it. Thanks. There is no reason why there can't be a "AI" prefix we can ignore, is there?

That isn't how genre definitions work. Expedition 33 is highly touted as a great new JRPG. It was made in France.

To be clear, I am asking about JRPGs for their own sake, not Fabula Ultima , at this point.

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

Sure, but if WotC is going to flush a quarter of a billion dollars, I would at least like some high quality, diverse D&D titles out of it as opposed to a video game that will never be released.
