Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

It is hard to tell because how you can access the models, but here is a frogfolk versus a ribbit: I am not sure why you would pay extra for the ribbit.

    Playing "Adventurers" As Actual Adventurers

I am not so much interested in the combat as war aspect. I am more interested in making the threat of disease or starvation actually interesting to play out.

    Playing "Adventurers" As Actual Adventurers

Do you emphasize the difficulties of exploration: logistics, "natural" obstacles, etc? I know it might be a little harder to do in space, but the thing I am interested in and wondering about is making fighting mosquitos, raging rivers, hunger and unfriendly locals the core of the game -- all...

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

I am honestly curious how folks feel about these digital only books from WotC, available (I surmise) only on D&D Beyond. Is this a positive development?

GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

I don't go for detailed, pre-written plots. I am more of a play to find out GM. I like creating fun and interesting situations then letting the players loose on them. As such, much of what is considered traditional prep isn't just unnecessary, but actively counter to the point.

    Playing "Adventurers" As Actual Adventurers

I am currently in the middle of The Lost City of Z by David Grann (Goodreads link), a nonfiction story about early 20th century exploration and it got me thinking about the pretty wide gulf between what a real world adventurer is, and what most RPG adventurers are. Are there any TTRPGs that...

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

I just put daggerheart in the search bar and they popped right up.

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

Doing so, I can't see where you pick the Daggerheart minis versus just the frog folk or whatever. EDIT: Nevermind. Found it.

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

Am I misunderstanding? Are these not Daggerheart branded assets?

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

Are there other company specific models that are not behind a paywall, or is this an attempt to try a new type of product? I am curious if HF is testing the waters here, or if Darrington is seeing just how far they can leverage the moment of popularity of DH. Just to be clear, I am not...

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

I'm only saying it isn't unusual, and that it does not appear to be enshittification. Unless i am misunderstanding, these weren't elements that had been included in the sub but then put behind a pay wall. They were new things put behind the payroll.

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

An example of a system that asks both a subscription fee and has microtransactions. There are tons of other potential examples -- it was just the first one to come to mind.

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

Fair enough. I am just having trouble imagining a concrete example of something that might occur in play. But, again, the overall point is good.

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

I agree with all of this. Much of it is orthogonal to mechanics, though. If the fighter player wants his character to ascend to the throne, there is not much that the wizard can do to disrupt that through magic, I don't think. At best, GMs can remind players to respect one another's spotlight...

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

My only point was that it does appear that what is happening here is some sort of unprecedented move by the company. I'll thank you not to impose your assumptions on my motives.

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

One particularly 5E thing with high level PCs is that they are probably STILL vulnerable to their weak saves, unless they took special care while leveling up to compensate. This is both a tool in the GM's tool kit, but also something to watch out for.

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

I don't know if this is true all the time. I am a big believer in personal stories, even at high levels. It doesn't have to be about saving the kingdom or world. Sometimes a demigoddess runs away from her arranged marriage to an Elemtal Lord to be eith her Fae Prince lover, and the PCs are...

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

5E high level monster design is just terrible. You have to look for different solutions than what's in the MM.
