    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

I think high level PCs in 5E should have to pour on the gas in order to come out ahead. the encounters and especially the boss fights should be tough -- not just burn your most powerful abilities tough, but work together and find the weakness tough.

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

I think one of the primary bugbears for high level play is how to handle high level monsters, their minions, and encounters in general. I think it is self evident that 5E core design does not do this well. It falls down at almost every turn. But that does not mean it isn't fixable. For general...

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

While I agree with the overall point, I am a little puzzled at your choice of example. First, fabricate isn't particularly high level (4th). And, are blacksmith montages a thing?

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

Fortnite makes billions of dollars a year based on microtransactions. People might complain, but it is standard practice. What people really hate is change. In all its forms. Always. But again, it came up in this very thread: there are (apparently) better services out there. Use one of those...

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

THIS IS A + THREAD. If you don't think it is possible to enjoy high level play in 5E, awesome! But maybe this isn't the thread for you. This thread is about discussing and providing ideas and support for making high level (16+) 5E (any flavor) work at the table and be fun, since WotC and most...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

I am saying that I don't believe people aren't interested in high level stories. Especially now, where superheroes and amime sbound. I think people, Especially here, are dismissing it out of hand mostly due to habit. WotC, as a company, follows the market. And if there is a pervasive meme that...

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

I think it is important to remember that enshittification isn't just about increased prices, it is about worse service in order to enrich investors at the expense of customers. I can't say whether that is happening here, since I am not a customer, but so far anyway it sounds more like a simple...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

But it isn't. Not significantly. People repeating over and over again that high level play doesn't work in 5E are, I feel, just assuming that based on previous editions (3.x mostly). The pervasiveness of this attitude makes it even more unlikely that WotC will decide to do something worthwhile...

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

I wonder if there is something happening behind the scenes where the cost for the branded DLC is intended to offset license costs? Do any non-licensed elements come with an additional cost?

Those of us that successfully run high level 5E without much trouble must be doing it terribly wrong...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

I don't think this is accurate. High level adventures can be significantly different in kind than mid level ones, but they don't have to be. Going off to rescue the princess only to find out she hasn't been kidnapped but instead ran off with the charming rogue works just as well with faerie...

GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

It makes some sense in the "OSR style" in that it is supposed to be a battle of wits between the player and GM, and in that context the GM winging it is sort of cheating. But adventuring or storytelling? You don't need heavy prep for that.

GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

I just think using modules is infinitely more work than either prepping my own, or improv. I am willing to do it with short adventures and isolated locations, but I don't have the patience to try and use a big adventure, let alone a campaign length one.

GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

Since (general) you are here, what does your prep actually look like (some of you have answered this already)? I tend to fill a single empty page in my campaign notebook with sketched out ideas based on what is happening next (I am running a sandbox game and I make sure to let the PCs decide...

Heroforge introduces microtransaction model with Daggerheart collaboration

Pretty much every service works this way. It kind of sucks, but it isn't unusual. Unless they actively took away things that were free before and made them into purchase-only elements (and maybe they did; I do not use HF) it just feels like a weird thing to get up in arms about. But, gamers do...

That seems a weird thing to be mad about. Just go with the better alternative. That is like being mad at Apple because Samsung phones exist (or vice versa).

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

I think high level adventures would sell better if they weren't SAVE THE WORLD adventures. You can do personal stakes at high level: gods, demons, dragons and other powerful entities still care about things beyond conquering the multiverse.

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

My personal opinion is that the Art is the most compelling part of DS and if Brom isn't back, what's the point?
