Here's a quick synopsis of the different territories of Ironhaven:
Territories
Goodwater Coast
A shore of islands and shoals, dangerous to ships but bountiful for fishermen. Called Goodwater for the many freshwater rivers that empty into the shallow coastline. The soil is thin, so Ironlanders...
Hey all, in this thread I was brainstorming ways to bring the "joy of prep" to Play to Find Out games like Ironsworn. Once I got a few ideas, I started coming up with a new campaign setting for the game. This is mostly just an exercise in fun, though I am planning on introducing some friends who...
This thread has inspired me to start creating my own Ironsworn setting, and I must say I'm having a lot of fun! So far it's a little bit Conan, and a lot Dinosaurs vs Vikings.
What's funny is that the way I prep traditional D&D games actually aligns much more with the advice in this thread.
In the last major campaign I ran, I had a dungeon map that I wound up reflavoring three different times because the players chose not to explore it in the first location or the...
So first of all, running Ironsworn has been a real relief from prep. I don't feel the need to prep every week, and I don't feel guilty if I haven't taken time out of my very busy life to prepare an adventure.
However, I have missed the option to prep, especially since my online Ironsworn group...
I think you should start with "I'm not having fun. I think everyone at the table should have fun. What can we do to make this fun for everyone?"
Without that conversation, no system is going to solve your group's problems.
Wait a minute, look at where she's standing. She's in a strange cave that appears to be artificial, based on the cobblestone-like walls. There's a glowing pit behind her...
I think this is actually a polymorphed monster, like a dragon or a demon, tricking people into entering their lair!
"What...
I just had a big realization that one of the reasons I may have been struggling with this in Ironsworn is that Ironsworn is both a rule set and a setting, so a lot of the prep work has been done. There are already interesting locations (Deep Wild, Hinterlands, etc) with adventure hooks...
Thanks everyone for the advice and anecdotes! I'm more easily envisioning now how to do fun prep with a game like Ironsworn.
Next month I'm going to try to put together a group of folks who are new to TTRPGs to play Ironsworn. Before that I'm going to have some fun doing prep about the world...
Hi everyone, I've been mulling over something lately and wanted to collect some thoughts.
I've really been enjoying running Ironsworn games for a small group of friends online, and I want to start running it offline as well. For those who don't know, Ironsworn is a game similar to Dungeon...
Fans seem to turn on or off of something with the throw of a switch. Even when they're buzzing, they oscillate back and forth between sides. I'll admit, some fans are cool, but other just seem to blow hot air. Anyways, that's my spin on things.
(Sorry)
I had an NPC who would commonly repeat the first three words of whatever he was saying:
"Well, well, well..."
"Anyway, anyway, anyway..."
"Okay, okay, okay..."
"Oh no, oh no, oh no!"
🤷 You could start with the most positive thread in the world and there's still be folks who treat it as their personal toilet. You can't control for people wanting to vent their negativity on the Internet. I choose instead to focus on the posts that actually discuss.
