Level Up (A5E) Gnolls (and other evil things)

Oh I've been at those tables and left them for others that fit better. And, yeah, there are people like that. It can become a big issue, though, if the Player is making their PC act in such a way that makes everyone else unhappy. I'm really not sure how else I can state why I consider the entry...

Level Up (A5E) Gnolls (and other evil things)

There's always some kind of Problem and it needs to be dealt with otherwise there's no story. However, there have been (and, sadly, still are) people who are only too eager to punish or kill those different than them or what their particular idea of a "perfect society" is. They have to be fought...

Level Up (A5E) Gnolls (and other evil things)

I really didn't mean to dismiss it. I like it a lot, but it doesn't solve the core problem that in the official book*, the first thing anyone will know about Gnolls (on a DC 10 or 15) is that they're demon-worshiping, people-killing creatures. That's not exactly going to allow much room for good...

Level Up (A5E) Gnolls (and other evil things)

D&D tends to lack playable canine races for some reason, and I do like canines (yes, I know hyenas are not canine). Also I read the comic strip Digger and got a lot of ideas for gnolls from there. It'd make sense if all the creatures in the MM were evil, but they aren't. Zeitgeist is very nice...

Level Up (A5E) Gnolls (and other evil things)

I know, but I find reading this stuff more and more creepy. Like, if they're really trying to get away from the racist things don't start with them being evil. It even mentions that other humanoids can participate in the rite, so maybe make it an additional cultural variation at the end of the...

Level Up (A5E) Gnolls (and other evil things)

I mean, different settings having different things is fine, but I really wish people were a bit more hesitant when it came to living beings effectively being "okay to kill" because of whatever reasons. And I know some people will point out they're literally possessed by a demon, but if anything...

Level Up (A5E) Gnolls (and other evil things)

Is there any possibility of making it where the Gnolls are not the newest Orcs/Goblins in terms of "it's okay to genocide them!"? Like, PCs may need things to fight, but I'm always bothered when an entry is basically "yes, they can be good but they'll never escape this [insert thing making...

Level Up (A5E) New Classes, Subclasses, Cultures, etc.

I think when I read the mixed heritages part, I mistook that for designing it, though Age, Size, Speed, Heritage Gift and Paragon Gift are mentioned and examples exist in the ones provided, so I didn't think it'd be too hard to make new ones around these. Another thought on this is that it'd be...

Level Up (A5E) New Classes, Subclasses, Cultures, etc.

Yeah, I just like it when the folks making a system go into how they decided what so when it comes to homebrewing there's less fuzziness. Pathfinder did some of that with their point-buy system but never actually did that for their classes, despite the book they published. Naïve as I am, I was...

Level Up (A5E) New Classes, Subclasses, Cultures, etc.

While Heritage, Background, and Destiny have sections for creating your own, Culture does not. Given that not ever culture will fit well on a given world, it'd be useful to have guidelines for it like the others do. As for New Classes and Subclasses, it'd be nice to know how features are...

Level Up (A5E) Is Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition compatible with D&D 5E?

Okay. I just wasn't sure if any tweaks might need to be made to it. Or if things like the synergy feats would apply.

Level Up (A5E) Is Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition compatible with D&D 5E?

A5e seems to be much better about versatility, but there doesn't seem to be a way to support subclasses. For instance, if I wanted to play an Eldritch Knight, I'd have to multiclass between Fighter and Wizard and, while there are synergy feats for this, it seems like I'd still end up with...

Official News Level Up’s Monsters: Ecology

I honestly didn't think to directly link. I mean there's the Adze, Aswang, Azeman, Bhuta, Chorti, Chupacabra, Langsuir, Obayifo, Penanggalan, Tikoloshe, and Yara Ma Yha Who among many others.

Official News Level Up’s Monsters: Ecology

Could you include quirks from other cultures such as counting small objects (counting grains of rice, for instance)? Have you considered how they might work as PCs if someone wants? Are you considering talking animals? Have you ever heard of the Skin Deep comic? It has an interesting portrayal...

What would WotC need to do to win back the disenchanted?

Personally, I do not think there's much they can do to get people back. After what they did to the Forgotten Realms, I think it's pretty clear they'd rather destroy all that came before than ask what their players actually want.
