Designing RPG Adventures With the Players And Not the GM In Mind, Part One

I think the notion that the module is for the Players or the DM comes down to different philosophies about how an RPG is run. As a DM, it's always been about the Players for me. And if a module is directed at me, the I change it or don't use it.

The D&D Shared Universe We're Already Playing

Roy Lee's comments are almost 2 years old. This was a weird approach to a shotgun subject.

I'm really bummed about that too. I was really looking forward to them this year.

I left the thread. Didn't know it got locked down. Thanks for trying to escalate.

North Texas RPG Convention Refuses To Listen To Harassment Concerns

Chris Helton, did you report that the person running NTRPGCon received only 3 e-mails about this and the person who posted on RPG.Net was one of the people e-mailing and got his facts wrong? Did you also report that the RPG.Net thread morphed into a mission to shut the show down? This is a...

    Harassment At PaizoCon 2017

The question I am wrestling with is that if BJ didn't want this be high profile and Paizo and FGG respected this and by her account handled the situation well, then why did Robert Brookes go against the target's wishes and make it a public spectacle? Is that truly helpful?

    Dungeon Tiles Reincarnated

As a retailer, I can confirm it causes confusion. I have to display these products with some distance between them. It's a very frustrating decision.

News Digest: Empyrea Canceled, New Stranger Things Game, Warhammer 40K Comics, and more!

Some of us just found out about this situation. I assumed the KS stalled because of Mentzer's remakrs about the OSR and his flawed KS Goals. Sadly, it seems that our hobby seems to have some new drama every week now and some of us just wantt os roll some dice, make stuff and buy stuff. At the...

Starfinder Starfinder's Sutter Leaves Paizo; Butler Joins (In A Different Role)

You can believe what you want. I base my information from working 20 years running 2 game stores. Pathfinder became the top RPG when 4E was shelved and WotC was developing 5E. While 4E was actively published it was the top RPG. And even 4E sold lights out better than Pathfinder. Again though...

Starfinder Starfinder's Sutter Leaves Paizo; Butler Joins (In A Different Role)

I think it has also sold out at several distributors, but it has not sold out on their website. However, the difference between the #1 selling spot in RPGs and the #2 has ALWAYS been an order of magnitude. Paizo, however has always been strong at keeping sales direct with their customers.

Can Hobby Stores Make Their Saving Throw?

As someone who has run 2 comic/game stores for 2 decades, we do have to constantly evolve. I'm as much an event planner as a salesperson. But you can't move enough products online to compete with Amazon. You simply can't. Imagine if your employer could pay someone to do your job at 40% of the...

News Digest: Tomb of Annihilation, D&D Beyond, Saving Throw Show, Critical Role, Origins Awards, War

How is someone in HR going to know about it except in very rare circumstances? There aren't illustrations. I disagree with the choices made, but it's purely text.

D&D 5E (2014) An Optional Initiative System based on Mike Mearls' idea from his Reddit AMA

Here is an adjustment to the new initiative system Mike Mearls presented to us yesterday: • A character's Dexterity Modifier is NOT applied to initiative rolls. • Lowest roll goes first and you count up, it resets each round when new rolls occur. • Fighters and Rogues roll a d6. • Other...

    D&D 4E D&D Fluff Wars: 4e vs 5e

After spending the last 5 years running DnD Next and 5th Edition in and around the Realms, I've turned my attention to the Nentir Vale and am using it to run the Sunless Citadel. I find it has refreshing ideas and yet squarely looks back and includes classic elements.
