    Too much prose in RPGs?

Totally agree. Not all but many, and I think I see it especially with smaller games.

    Too much prose in RPGs?

Some game books seem like they are written to be read more than played. I'm function first so I prefer them to lean more towards being clear and concise without a lot of clutter. Enough lore and background to support the scenario but as I will doubtlessly throw out a lot of it its not a big...

    Generic Miniature Painting Thread

Thanks, and it turned out pretty good the more I look at it. The staff is bent though and it will surely break off if I mess with it too much.

    Generic Miniature Painting Thread

I had lost a lot of interest in painting over the past several months and pretty much did nothing . So I painted this guy to start getting the juices flowing again. Not great but knocking off the rust. Not great at photos.

D&D 5E (2014) Content Warning Labels? Yeah or Nay?

Quite honestly that content warning seems like its a parody.

    D&D 5E (2014) Removing the HP Bloat

Okay. I'm not sure I compared it to 3e, or 4e which I have no experience with. So I'm not sure why you are trying to argue this. IME crits in 5e is not a good system, and I guess that would apply to 3e as well though it has been years since I played it and far longer since I ran it. 4e I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Removing the HP Bloat

IME fights were pretty much entirely determined on the crits, which isn't unique to 5e but doubling all damage dice gets crazy. Paladin smites and rogue sneak attacks when they are getting crits do a massive amount of damage. Just seeing how the demons princes were pretty much a joke due to...

Castles & Crusades vs. Old School Essentials vs. Low Fantasy Gaming

Basically in your prime attributes you need a 12 on your check, on the rest its an 18. Then there are stat mods of course and difficulty modifiers and you add your level as well. So D20+stat mod+level > 12/18 + difficulty

Castles & Crusades vs. Old School Essentials vs. Low Fantasy Gaming

I run OSE now and love it. The base game is pretty much a re-organized clone of B/X, but with the Advanced rules it mixes in enough AD&D to be nearly perfect for me. Just got my Kickstarter stuff, Advanced Monsters and Advanced Treasure which pretty much makes the game exactly what I want...

Would You Get A D&D Tattoo?

My pop had more or less that same battlefield cross tattoo on his arm. Viet Nam vet. Nice work. Its funny he had a couple from the 60's when he was in the Army and then in the 00's started getting more in his 50's-60's, which lead to me getting some...a viscous circle! I keep thinking do I...

Would You Get A D&D Tattoo?

I wouldn't mind getting more and I've thrown around the idea of getting some Erol Otis art on me. We will see.

D&D General What’s the most gruesome thing that can befall an adventurer?

In my current game its losing levels as there is no restoration spell outside finding a wish. They asked "how do we get those levels back?" "Adventure"

    D&D General Anyone Co-DM'd a Session?

Closest I came was last night when one player's PC had just been raised so he needed 2 weeks of rest before he could do anything other than move at half speed with 1 HP. So when the party ambushed a group of swamp goblins laying in ambush for them I let him run the goblins. Honestly I was kind...

D&D General On Skilled Play: D&D as a Game

DM mastery is key too. My players know I have a weak spot for stirge swarms, ghouls, and rot grubs.

D&D General On Skilled Play: D&D as a Game

Even when running a skill system like 5e I tried to tell the players that if you describe something that removes doubt you can avoid the dice. There is a key on the back of one of the drawers in desk. You tell me you are going to take all the drawers out and search them, or physically check...

OSR Is there room in modern gaming for the OSR to bring in new gamers?

I gave my 5e books to my best friends son, 19, since him and some friends were wanting to play D&D. We were talking about it and he was going on about how he was going to be a level 50-something character, and all that. Well apparently they looked at those three books, and were just not sure...
