D&D General On the subject of Hobgoblins

The iron fist of Maglubiyet. Striking fear into his enemies with their tactical precision and warrior discipline. Quake in fear followers of Grummish or other false gods! I love my Otherworld Hobgoblin minis and try to use them as much as possible.

    Grounded or Gonzo?

Grounded with occasional explosions of gonzo.

D&D General How Would You Describe Your D&D Group

A bunch of besotted lushes around a table with a very gamest approach to classic hack and slash D&D. Not totally casual but nobody but one or two players is messing with D&D stuff when we aren't at the table. All of us have known each other for 20+ years and half have gamed together on and off...

D&D General How many D&D groups are you currently in?

1, we run two campaigns so a DM can get a break. I'm running a Greyhawk game using OSE and playing in a 5E game. Wed night is game night. Honestly that is enough D&D for me. My other hobby time is mini painting.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D needs Mouseguard/BW style Goals etc.

That would only get in the way of my tables tomb robbing and foe slaughtering most likely. Would be great for some groups no doubt.

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Animated Series: Requiem The Final Episode

It came out right as I was discovering D&D and playing a mish mash of The Red Box and AD&D. We had no idea what we were doing but through my rose colored glasses I'll say that was the best gaming of my life. The cartoon hit at the perfect time.

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Animated Series: Requiem The Final Episode

Didn't they do a comic where they were stuck there until adulthood and all got eaten by Tiamat?

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Animated Series: Requiem The Final Episode

For me there were tiers of cartoons. Tier 1 - Saturday Morning. (though admittedly many of these were not my cup of tea, but always thought the production values were better) Tier 2 - After school stuff like Transformers. Tier 3 - Loony Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Heckle and Jeckle, etc. These...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Animated Series: Requiem The Final Episode

I remember when the Dragonlance cartoon with all the names doing voice work came out...and the animation was so bad. Why Lord why? Not into CR but I'll have to check that out when it hits.

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Animated Series: Requiem The Final Episode

Honestly I'm not necessarily interested in a reboot of this particular 'toon, but why hasn't there been more animated D&D stuff?

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Animated Series: Requiem The Final Episode

I was reading that if they had brought it back for a 4th season it was going to be re-imagined. Anyone got more info on that?

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Animated Series: Requiem The Final Episode

loved this as a kid. Would love a modern D&D animated series, a bit closer to the game. This brings back memories when the only time you got great cartoons other than the vintage Loony Tunes stuff was on Saturday morning. It used to be magical and I was up early for 3-4 hours of cartoons...

D&D General Hero Forge in Color Is Open For Busniess!

Spend all that money on a mini and they die in a pit trap in the first session...better wait until they survive a few levels. ;)

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM, what monster abilities do you find difficult to run?

Monsters that rely on illusion. Rappan Athuk had a complex encounter between the party and a The encounter pretty much requires a player and the DM to work together to run it. Wasn't any way for me to do that without tipping off the rest of the party or working with a player in advance. It...

Do you prefer your character to be connected or unconnected to the adventure hook?

Sure, I don't play them all the same, alignment, race, class, all impact that and of course variation within that. I guess for me the fun of D&D is the adventure itself, I like the locals, the dungeons, delving into some ancient lost temple, the exploration. Making up a deep PC is secondary to...

Do you prefer your character to be connected or unconnected to the adventure hook?

I don't come into a campaign with an idea for a PC I want to tell a story about or anything like that. So I roll stats, see what cool PC I can make from that, and then he really just comes together in play after that. Plus in most of our campaigns low level PC drop like flies, best to not get...

Do you prefer your character to be connected or unconnected to the adventure hook?

Other than maybe the initial dungeon delve of a first level PC where my guy lives in a nearby village or something I don't really make up much of a background or try to tie them to much of anything other than a desire for wealth and glory.

OSR Hybrid TSR era clone, does it exist?

Old School Essentials with the Advanced books is a near perfect hybrid of B/X with some AD&D options added in. They just finished up a kickstarter for a few new books but you can get the current basic+advanced books now.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Twilight: 2000, Wanderhome, Trilemma Adventures, and more

Played in his S&W game at GaryCon 2019. Was a lot of fun. He was drinking whiskey, then again so was I. Did a great job of making a table of 20 seem like 8. But I can't say I'm going to jump on this kickstarter no matter how much I enjoy that companies materials. Rappan Athuck is an entire...
