D&D General How many DMs buy (official) adventures?

Many of the beginning DMs that I've seen start by running an official adventure of some sort, whether a hardcover campaign book, or individual modules like AL ones. It can take several years to play through a hardcover module, however, so most do not buy many of them.

    D&D 5E (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

Is there a check to see if a creature is affected by the ability or not?

    D&D 5E (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

I'm assuming honesty. Not liking something is not the same as being unable to come up with new flavour.

    D&D 5E (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

4e made a thing of abilities being able to be reflavoured. But not everyone took notice and/or was able to come up with that on the fly.

    D&D 5E (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

The DM is always capable of putting a player's character into a position where they cannot use one of their features, whether class, racial or background. I don't believe the person you are arguing with has ever stated that they can always use a feature, no matter what the situation.

D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

IIRC from when he was posting on the WotC message boards, Keith Baker did not "change his mind" about Warforged souls. There was the assumption by the people in Eberron that Warforged did not have souls, even though they did by the by the rules that he wrote for them. It was simply the case that...

D&D 5E (2014) Can I handle two shields and cast spell with War Caster feat?

By the wording, having shields in both hands shouldn't cancel the feat. Are you sure your DM wasn't talking about Material components?

    D&D 5E (2014) I’d be glad for MAD

While SAD is a definite thing, in that there are many classes with only one Primary ability score, secondary scores are also important. Everyone wants DEX: Dex checks are one of the most important and common in the game, whether you're a heavy armour-wearing martial or a spellcaster. Having a...

D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

. . . and how was that forcing you to have your character in a wheelchair in game? Sometimes D&D is a sanctuary from your demons. Sometimes it is an arena where you can fight your demons in a way that you can't in real life.

D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

That is literally what escapism means. And its why lots of people play D&D and other RPGs.

D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

You're entitled to your opinion on half-races when it comes to elves and orcs, but they too can be important when it comes to representation. As such WotC is unlikely to erase them from their worlds. People care. People who play this game. Real people, in the real world. That's who cares. Also...

D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

Plasmoids don't seem to have eyes as such, so a vision-correction prosthetic for them would probably look rather different than glasses for a human. I could definitely see a plasmoid using enchanted glasses, or purely aesthetic ones just to provide social cues to make humanoids more comfortable...

D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

Other than the obvious (existence of magic, non-human races etc,) how do you believe that the fantasy depiction of demographics designed to appeal to the broadest modern audience for the game should differ from those of modern demographics? Why would a creature with no eyes have a need for...

D&D 5E (2014) At what level have you fought Strahd, and how did the encounter end?

We were level 9 or 10 and it came very close to defeating us. We skirmished with him several places in the castle and had managed to drive him off at the cost of a lot of resources, including a very memorable chase as his forces took the sunsword and led is in an extreme chase across a lot of...

D&D 5E (2014) GM: Who Do You Target? [READ OP BEFORE VOTING]

Priority-dependent. Attack the Cleric if the priority is "the DM wants to try to kill one of their player's characters." Attack the Fighter if the priority is "the NPC wants to fight and escape." The Cleric isn't a threat to them escaping. The Wizard probably isn't either unless the NPC can...

    D&D General Bizuids and Clercerocks

For many settings, being a PC class isn't something that can just be learned: you either have the potential or you don't. For example some level of inborn talent may be required to become a Wizard even if it isn't on the scale of full-out Sorceror. In Eberron, where more people can use magic...

D&D 5E (2014) How game-breaking is it if GW Fighting Style applies to smites?

In my experience, it is quite common for DMs to run the module or published campaign as it is written.

D&D 5E (2014) How game-breaking is it if GW Fighting Style applies to smites?

I believe that it is likely that the OP is asking about the Great Weapon Fighting Fighting style, not the feat. Re-rolling 1s and 2s when you're adding more dice like smites or sneak attack is a significant boost, but not excessive I think.

D&D 5E (2014) If "Extra Attack" Was A Feat, What Would Its Prerequisites Be?

Indeed. Saying that granting Extra Attack to a random Sorceror is fine, doesn't take into account when they take a Hexblade dip and cast Shadow Blade or Necrotic Shroud. Likewise if you're allowing feats to grant even more attacks, they will play merry heck with Paladins for example, which are...
