Star Wars: The High Republic - a new publishing campaign

There's always Darth and Droids where that's how you get Anakin. A Darth and Droids RPG would be fun.

S/Z: On the Difficulties of RPG Theory & Criticism

I think it is very narrow focused to say PCs first goal is to survive. There are many cases where it makes good character narrative sense to have the character die to further a cause. Heck that's even a real life win condition for some people. The player's goal is to have fun and maybe tell a...

I'm pretty sure there was an April issue from the Dragon with an Accountant class. Yep Issue #48 along with Bugs and Daffy write ups.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Announces Combat Tracker

That's looks pretty good. Seems to have similar features as to Lion's Den Gamemaster. Is it easy to add your own custom creatures? the work to get things into the XML for Lion's Den is the only thing that takes a lot of time.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Announces Combat Tracker

I don't subscribe to D&D Beyond but can anyone who has seen it working do a comparison with the Lion's Den Gamemaster app? I found that app to be great and the ability for me to add my own stuff to be helpful.

Ask Angry: How to Playtest an Entire System on Three Hours a Week

I love early testing. Fail fast and often because it's cheaper to do it early than it is to get deep in development and then fail.

The Sort of TTRPGs You Want More (and Less) Of

I need an RPG that stops time so we can play more RPGs. In general, I find that it's easier to build the theme I want in something like FATE or GURPS. For a new game, I want some new mechanic that would justify a new system. Something like the card draw make a poker hand of Deadlands but where...

Any old timers out there willing to help with a Master's thesis?

I started in 1979 in middle school. The GATE program in Irvine CA had a teach who introduced us. I was already a heavy player of warfare board games such as AH Battle of the Bulge and AH Midway. My family also played a lot of other board games. I was lucky that I had a number of friends who...

S/Z: On the Difficulties of RPG Theory & Criticism

I haven't been able to make comments on this thread until now, but I see the point here is the same that video game designers have been trying to make, a language to discuss games. This was very big after game designers looked at Christopher Alexanders "A Pattern Language" (1977) and there were...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Revisits Popular Feats

I'm surprised Shield Master isn't more popular. I guess the change that prevents you from bashing before attacking played a big part. Knocking down people is fun.

    WAR OF THE WORLDS Trailer

Now if they get around to a War Against the Cthorr show or movie, I'd be interested. Having the earth changed out from underneath humans is interesting. Plus giant killer worms.

D&D 5E (2014) Some thoughts on Warfare in DnD

If the world is a fiefdom (and I usually run them this way) all the chains of loyalty run up to the king. Armies are expected to have warriors (fighters, barbarians, calvary knights, scouts, lower level warriors), and maybe a few other specialists like mages, clerics and bards. Specialists...

D&D General Best on screen adaptation of D&D

It's more a cliffhangers setting but The Mummy (1999) with Brando Fraiser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and Kevin J. O'Connor is the best roleplaying movie. Hands down. Fight me. The group dynamics just feels like a RPG group with everyone kind of working together but also doing their own thing.

D&D General Worlds of Design: A Question of Balance

A lot of how people will see balance will depend on the goal of their RPG playing. Are you interested in the story, then characters are balanced if they can contribute to the story in the ways they want to succeed. Are you focused on combat, then the players will want to look at damage per...

What game systems or stand alone games have you not played, but would like to try?

I have a good number of the In Nomine books (Steve Jackson Games: In Nomine) but I've never found the right group to play it. I would like to play a Dresden Files campaign eventually, but I'm not even sure what the system is any more. Was there an original system and then there is a FATE...

Why Do You Hate An RPG System?

I wouldn't call it hate but I don't play modern or future games with leveling mechanics. I just don't like it. I also don't like it when games fail to understand the probabilities of the mechanics involved. Deadlands poker hand mechanic was an issue there. Love the game setting but the...

D&D General The senseless achitecture in most official products

While I think poorly thought out dungeons are annoying, to me the worst offenders are houses / manors that are just terribly thought out. Gralhund Villa in the Waterdeep isn't bad but having the kids room be accessed through the master bedroom is annoying. The Cassalanters' Villa is just a mess...
