D&D 5E (2014) Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

So I think it was a misunderstanding because I read it at first as Innistrad being the Snyder Cut in the analogy. But the context of the post gives the quote a negative vibe, so I'm not sure your interpretation hits the mark completely.

D&D 5E (2014) Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

They create a much bigger version of this problem in the form of making entirely different versions of the game, so I imagine they aren't worried about this. "If you are a person who really has a strict belief in the original, I would not advise that you watch this program. It'll hurt them."...

D&D 5E (2014) Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

I have seen a few posters here decry Curse of Strahd and get into "not my Ravenloft" territory though,, and since I'm lazy and don't want to dig through threads if any of them are hanging around I'd be up to here their side of the story. But it makes sense they would hew closer with Barovia...

D&D 5E (2014) Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

So the answer to the first question is name recognition, which I'm sure you already knew. I don't think there's a winning choice between "all new domains that are clearly treading the same ground and are meant to be updated version of old domains" and "updating the old domains" if the goal is...

D&D 5E (2014) Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

So as someone who has never played or read any Ravenloft material prior to Curse of Strahd, I'm interested in a comparison of the level of differences between CoS and older material to the changes Van Richten's guide is making to the setting. I wonder if there's a precedent here.

    Marvel could publish DC.

I don't think anyone is assuming Marvel would be a Mortal Kombat level rating. Injustice is far from being a Mortal Kombat rating.

D&D 5E (2014) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms MtG set Planeswalkers confirmed.

In all practical measures Will and Rowan being on one card counts as one planeswalker for the set, I imagine. As far as the developers deciding how many they could fit. Not to disagree with your main point, 3-5 is the most likely range.

WotC So, when do the announce the July book? Guesses on what it'll be? 🤔

Either a Commander deck if you want to try the commander mode of play, or a pre-release kit which comes with enough boosters + extras to make a deck. If your local store if able to host a pre-release event for the set, you'll end up doing the latter.

WotC So, when do the announce the July book? Guesses on what it'll be? 🤔

These are what you would be considered the "normal" booster pack. That somewhat depends if you're hoping to go down to game night at the store, or play with friends at home.

WotC WotC Announces D&D Live Streaming Event

Netflix is a very different thing from "trying lots of stream shows that struggle to pick up a following." These announcement streams do well, but that's part of their nature as once-a-year super events.

D&D 5E (2014) Ravenloft Previews of Dementlieu, Lamordia, and Har'Akir

So as a test to see whether the Mummy character still remains as part of the core "Halloween monster gang" I looked at the covers of the Hotel Transylvania films. And a mummy is on each of them. I therefore state with confidence that young people today are still aware of mummies and associate...

Let's just keep adding the controversial, thread-ending topics to the mix.

WotC So, when do the announce the July book? Guesses on what it'll be? 🤔

Wyatt's were a lot...simpler than Winninger's. Winninger was much more about forming your own world and seeding it with secrets. Wyatt's was about making a 4e campaign (not a world) using the 4e base assumptions (Dawn War gods, points of light, ect.) and creating character hooks and...

WotC So, when do the announce the July book? Guesses on what it'll be? 🤔

This is basically the comments section for the blog post. If even half of us actually read it that would be better than normal.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Head Talks Future Plans (Sort Of)

That's the reason they've pursued their strategy of a small number of yearly releases that follow a buffet approach with DM and player material mixed into each book, always attempting to make anything in it easily ported to any campaign. They've created a situation where there's so few releases...

WotC So, when do the announce the July book? Guesses on what it'll be? 🤔

They meant that. Explicitly D&D settings. Though still expect more MtG settings. Not really weird. They're willing to go wide on settings, but they are not interested in going deep. Though I'd like to see the adventure books branch out.

WotC So, when do the announce the July book? Guesses on what it'll be? 🤔

An interesting tidbit to this is that James Wyatt wrote his own series of Dungeoncraft articles for 4e. Call that my longshot prediction for "improved version of concept that I initiated".

WotC So, when do the announce the July book? Guesses on what it'll be? 🤔

They're deep into campaign 2. The earliest I would expect to see a book connected to a new campaign would be 2023.
