On this same note: there is precedence. In an unearthed arcana article leading up to strixhaven, WotC attempted this. It didn’t make the cut but I’m pretty sure they went back to the drawing board with it rather than scrapping the idea
I’m not saying every subclass is designed to be cross class but having some be is awesome.
I personally am getting tired of “here are 70 different archetypes that all amount to eldritch warrior”.
I don’t believe it was intended to be palatable more that it was “this is what’s coming and this is the best offer you are gonna get” strong arming.
Sort of a “give this idea legitimacy by signing this now and we will give you this tiny concession”
Agreed it’s not a good offer. But (1) running a company doesn’t automatically confer the best business sense and (2) how many people release things on DMsGuild that don’t technically need to be (not in violation of IP) for the benefits of having more eyes on it?
I dunno.
Personally I love it. You have some time as a player to play in the game before making a major defining choice. Classes that choose archetypes at level 1 or even 2 have always bothered me for this reason.
I guess what I mean is I am wondering if any accepted these terms. I should not have implied silence was complicity, because they have businesses to worry about and not being sued by a company with better lawyers is a good business practice
One would hope. But I think it’s easy to assume everyone would be on the right side of this. Personally I believe there may be one or two that we’re willing to sign, but that’s just me being negative and there is 0 proof to back up that belief.
