D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

The weapon is classified and usually doesn't move category based on usage The Hoopak was an exception that specifically did IIRC.

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

It's clear what Sneak Attack says, it says Ranged weapon, not Range weapon.

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

A spear is never a ranged weapon regardless of how you attack with it.

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

Evidence is in PHB, Sage Advice and Tweets from the Dev. This question has been addressed multiple time since 5E launched.

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

    1. Weapons are never defined for that matter too, just table listings. Melee and Ranged are weapon category classifications that are referenced repeatedly throughout the game. 2. It's a hyperlink shortcut error that should instead refer back to Melee or Ranged in the Weapon details section and...

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

I found another coding error on DDB about this very subject. May be it's the same programmer that incorrectly made an hyperlink shortcut in this Sage Advice :) : https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/sac/sage-advice-compendium?msockid=076d6875ed8a697715d17caaecb168d1#SA079

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

If 5E wanted to have Melee Thrown weapons count as ranged weapon when making ranged attack it would have said so in the Thrown property for example. Not only they never did, but they made an official ruling saying it's not:

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

All Ranged weapons are Range weapons. Not all Melee Weapons are Range weapons. Sneak Attack can only be used with Finesse or Ranged weapons wether they're Range weapon or not.

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

The quoted rule below doesn't mean that any weapon used to attack at a greater distance is a Ranged weapon or any weapon used to attack a target within 5 feet is a Melee weapon. It instead explain what weapon classified in this category is used for.

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

It's probably not the same IT guy that did the Archery feat because this one didn't get hyperlink shortcut to the wrong element. ;) Nor is the entry on Making an Attack when mentioning ''firing a Ranged weapon.''

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

This is a hyperlink shortcut error from DDB. The printed rules are clear to me Sneak Attack can be used with a Ranged weapon and not Range weapon. Probably the programmer doesn't master the game (enought) to know that Ranged Category vs Range Property are two distinct elements.

    D&D 5E (2024) Warcaster Cheesy Fondue 2024

The reference to enemies and foes in Opportunity Attack rules to me clearly indicate which creature triggers them.

    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

Since i generally use a published campaing settings for the groundwork of my campaigns, most compaigns i've run in past decades have been humano-centric, wether it was GREYHAWK, FORGOTTEN REALMS, EBERRON, the Nentir Vale, AL-QUADIM, DRAGONLANCE and even in the 80-90's DARKSUN and MYSTARA to my...

    D&D 5E (2024) A Reintroduction to Greyhawk

Welcome back GREYHAWK, i missed you! ♥ I'm happy to see the return of GREYHAWK, especially as a complete setting in the DMG if they were to introduce a setting in it, i prefer it over new one. Nice gift for D&D 50th anniversary! It should make it discovered or rediscovered by many lasped or...

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk- New Map, Discussion of Changes

I really like the GREYHAWK map Mike you homerunned it! The change to Blackmoor certainly had ramifications but i would preferred to keep it around personally.

    D&D 5E (2014) Darkvision and Magical Darkness

At my table magical darkness blocks Darkvision and nonmagical light. If i design an encounter or area containing magical darkness as opposed to mundane one, it won't be so they're effectively similar. If i run a published adventure and magical darkness is encountered somewhere, i'd rule the...

D&D 5E (2024) How many combats do you have on average adventuring day.

In most campaigns i run average 3 combats per encounter day, some days it's more or less but i would say it's a good approximation. In any given day may be other exploration or social encounters as well but i exclude anything not combat.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 PHB errata thread

Blindness/Deafness is listed as Necromancy in D&D Beyond and as Transmutation in the Player's Handbook. (The spell table in the Cleric & Wizard class on D&D Beyond list it as Transmutation) I don't know yet if its an error or deliberate errata that omitted some place.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 PHB errata thread

It does, but the Blinded condition's Can't See & Attacks Affected should add " unless you can see somehow" to countereffect them similar to how some of the Invisible condition are if seen somehow.
