    D&D 5E (2024) Rank 5e skills from most useful (1) to least useful (18)

You’re right I don’t think it would change. I put them in the order folks listed them. If nothing else it was the order you thought of them.

D&D 5E (2024) Improving Medicine - one of the least loved skills.

I like it. Another option could be make a medicine check when someone spends HD to recover hp. If successful they spend one less HD. For every 5 points of success they save an additional HD.

You could give more details than blooded…. But yes I do the same as you!

D&D 5E (2024) Improving Medicine - one of the least loved skills.

I agree. In gritty health variants when HP come back less often it would be much more useful. I do think the change to the restoration spells are a game changer. Not being able to magically cure disease is a big change. Of course only if disease is a thing in the game.

D&D 5E (2024) Improving Medicine - one of the least loved skills.

My previous thread D&D 5E (2024) - Rank 5e skills from most useful (1) to least useful (18) generated a some discussion and a bit of disagreement but one thing that was almost unanimous was the feeling that Medicine and Performance were the two least used/useful skills in D&D 5E (2024). I find...

My next online campaign when Enemy Within Finishes is an homage to 2nd Edition Dalelands.

    D&D 5E (2024) Rank 5e skills from most useful (1) to least useful (18)

Thanks folks so much for engaging with the topic. So a quick and dirty summary of the data shared. With this huge sample of 16. I've assigned each skill a number between 1 and 18 depending on each poster's ranking. Apologies to the two posters that only ranked some of the skills. I've removed...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons of Drakkenheim: a dark fantasy sandbox in a ruined city

Good detailed discussion of the work. The only thing I would take issue with is the campaign described as low-magic. Our group is about half way through. They have already encountered several mid to high level casters. There are magic items for sale. There are several fantastical NPCs. There...

Do you use "voice acting" when you play?

Yeah I love it. I usually pick an actor or media character as a base and then key off that like @MGibster ’s Christopher Walken example. The lawyer in a recent game was channelling Michael Gambon. Once it’s established I step out of 1st person and move to 3rd person. Partly because it takes...

D&D Beyond Releases Free Forgotten Realms Adventure

I don’t have a problem with it being only two combat encounters and a relatively tight location. What I do want to see is far more NPC development. Interesting objectives, conflict and mystery. Basically give me motivations!

    Golden Ages of Gaming

It’s very easy to find people to play online through a VTT because your pool of potential players has just expanded to include everyone who shares the same language as you, has time, is interested and has the suitable technology. Rather than the person needing to live within 30 mins travel time...

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

I love that rat-catcher career so much. Our rat-catcher (career acquired during the horned rat adventure) had their small and vicious dog killed in a fight with the Skaven and developed (hatred Skaven). She’s now the most feared Skaven slayer in the empire!

    Hours actually playing RPGs, non-D&D?

About 200 hours of WFRP this year. Two sessions a week. One two hours, one three hours. There have been a few gaps due to sickness and holiday but balanced out with extra sessions or ones that run over by 30 mins. So confidently 200+ hours so far this year.

D&D General Hours actually playing RPGs, D&D?

My D&D games are currently all monthly weekend sessions (this will change when Enemy Within finishes) The Friday night is about 4 hours. The Saturday about 7 hours so about 110 hours so far. last year when I was running Age of Worms in the week you could double that. That’s on top of two...

    Golden Ages of Gaming

We’re in a golden age of gaming right now. It started with the VTT explosion during Covid and we’re riding the crest of the wave! The mainstreaming of VTT was the single biggest shift in the TTRPG world since it was created. Because it fundamentally changed access to real time games for millions...

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

Staffan has answered for 1e/2e really clearly. 4e came out 7 years ago so it was likely that edition. It’s different in 4e. The good news is that the upper limits have been removed. Instead there are diminishing returns as the cost of advancing an ability or skill becomes more expensive as it...
