    5E: Fifth Edition Monster Variants Inspired by Fourth Edition Sources

    ok maybe an extra bonus action/action The Blood is the Life. The Scarlet Mist can bestow 10 (3d6) hp on any Vampiric Mist it is within five feet of. The Scarlet Death loses the same amount of hp (half??)

    ok - looking up Crimson Death..it's quite a distinct critter - a marsh-dwelling blood sucking critter that may or may not be undead and seems otherwise unrelated to vampires (?). Buffed it to 16d8+48 (120hp) Maybe it can "transfuse" hit points to the lesser vampiric mists if adjacent...?

    Yes, I like the idea that its greater power means that it can coaleasce its blood-mist into pseudopods to manipulate objects. Do we need to define a limit? Like a mage hand level strength or something? I guess what I am aiming for is a boss-level monster that has the capability of combatting...

    Scarlet Death I like (I mean...we could also go with "Red death" as in "Masque of...") (For background, in my homebrew campaign, Lilith as an embodiment of emptiness/desolation/loneliness is the progenitor of Ravenloft. Lilith later brought Cain, the first Vampire, into being. Cain the Hungry...

    5E: Fifth Edition Monster Variants Inspired by Fourth Edition Sources

    I just stuck up "blood mist" as a placeholder name for the time being. "Crimson mist exists for the srd version. I guess "Scarlet Mist" or "Crimson death" or "red mist"? The canon version I was just leaving as the name. I was just imagining this as a larger and more malevolent version of the...

    I like the idea of using it as a significantly more powerful and more dynamic vampiric mist (so might be used as a boss monster with some CR3 vampiric mist - so maybe CR 6 or so. I will stat up something in an hour or so and post

    5E: Fifth Edition Monster Variants Inspired by Fourth Edition Sources

    Now for my world I need an interesting Vampiric Mist - and I stumbled across the 4e one (p42 of Dungeon #221 in adventure "Vainglorious") and liked its mechanics enough to import it to 5e. I have a vague idea I saw it somewhere else too but can't remember where now. The one from Mordenkainen's...

    Heh, I can DnDbeyond it posthaste...should the 'bite' be slashing or piercing damage? And the claw damage - "6 (1d4 + 3)" --> "5 (1d4 + 3)"?

    D&D 5E (2014) Is the Forgotten Realms experiencing a new Golden Age now that its NOT the default 5e setting anymore?

    Only really familar with 1e,2e and 5e. Seems to me there is more of an unwritten sense of what is "core" material, what is "FR" and what is "Greyhawk" the whole time. The two Campagin settings are so generic that one can shift from non-setting to setting material pretty smoothly. I've never...
