Just finished reading all of Clark Ashton Smith's short stories

A few days ago, I finished the final volume of Clark Ashton Smith's Collected Fantasies. That's well over a hundred stories in five volumes. I first encountered Smith in X2 Castle Amber many years ago, and I had read a few of his more famous stories. But, a couple of years ago, I set down to...

    Dragon Reflections #68

Yep, the fighter at my 1E table, a fellow named Rix, was a dual-wielder. He used a longsword and a dagger called Deepbiter that did crazy damage on a crit.

Oh, I'd happily buy a magazine of this caliber for $10.

You've used them as a adventuring PCs?

    Dragon Reflections #68

Yeah, I think that's why it felt "thin" to me, even though it was full of crunch. I just wasn't seeing a lot of playable content.

Thanks Griffon - I had no idea about that bit of backstory with Jaquet. Gygax was certainly burning bridges at the time. It must have been a bit uncomfortable for those in TSR who wanted good relationships with the rest of the industry. Not unlike WOTC atm! Perhaps I should read up on the...

Gygax claimed they needed to standardize the system to support tournament play, and that makes some sense. However, no-one can deny that there was a strong financial incentive to try and lock everyone into TSR-produced content.

D&D General M. T. Black made his own 5e clone. Iskandar Players Handbook.

I've been thinking about that as well. A book twice as thick as AoA would still be thinner than other (non-RPG) books on my shelf. The digest size makes it transportable. Hmm... we'll see

D&D General M. T. Black made his own 5e clone. Iskandar Players Handbook.

Dave2008 asked about hints, tips, etc. This double-page is a good example of what I mean. The regular text is straight 5E, but the boxed text is stuff I've added. Hints ("Remember..."), a tip ("Perception vs. Investigation") and an Optional Rule. I can't say how many of these I put in, but...
