Sure, but a 1st edition wizard had exactly the same issue of using a spells as any other edition wizard. No edition addresses the 5 minute adventuring day. If the party doesn't have a time limit, there is no reason to approach any challenge without maximum resources regardless of game system.

Every eddtion of D&D has the 5 minute adventuring day problem if you dont have time pressure in a adventure. Ive always seen this as a Issue related to bad adventure design and less about bad mechanics.

Appreciate how 1e+UA is listed as a seperate system. I feel like 2e + The Complete Books plays much differently than just 2e PHB only. My last 2e game was just PHB no other books amd that's how I would play every time. But also get how you dont want to subdivided every edition.
