Id be happy if it was just wizards. Im not a fan of i was born with it spell casting and if you want to make a pact with a demon take a level in cleric. Plus I hate Charisma based spell casting. So that might taint my opinion.

I think D&D, regardless of edition, is most fun from about 3rd to 7th level so starting at level 1 makes sense. You work up to the sweet spot. Sure maybe a PC dies but that's part of the fun.

I think D&D as a whole would have been better without clerics and divine magic.
