Hmm... I am not sure if your weapon is too powerful for a group of your level, although I suspect that it might be. However, if you want to have interesting weapons in your games you might want to take a gander at the Leveled Magic Items article in Dragon 289. Basically your weapons power grows...

I prefer PDF's that are layed out like a book so I can print them double sided. I hate to waste trees and money. :)
