What's the bare minimum for a VTT?

Bare minimum - ability to put images on screen and something like paint where i can easily sketch something in real time, dice roller, good audio/video quality. We play theater of mind exclusively, so no need for tokens, maps, etc.

What makes a successful superhero game?

And for me, that's irritating and one of the reasons i dropped most DC/Marvel comics ages ago. To each it's own. Yes, but i'm running a game, not writing a comic. Stuff that works in comics doesn't always work in games. And even in comics, it doesn't always make sense and requires massive...

What makes a successful superhero game?

Not weird. In first post on this topic, i said my own preference are street level heroes. Hell, my favorite "hero" was and still is Punisher (and i like to play that type of characters). So power levels around peak human to low level superhuman (fe WW2 era Cap in First avenger as upper limit...

Cairn Second Edition Offers A Character Driven Dungeon Crawl

Cairn 1ed is my favorite rules light ttrpg. While my group doesn't like it enough for long campaigns, it's go to system when we need fast ad hoc one shot adventure. From what i read, 2ed just improves on good stuff, while keeping things fast and simple.

What makes a successful superhero game?

@Tonguez My Marvel lore is mostly limited to MCU, it's been over 20 years since i read any regular Marvel comic. When it comes to Marvel, Punisher MAX and stuff like Furry: My war gone by is my jam ( i like Garth Ennis's take on superheroes) , along with stuff like The Watchmen, The boys...

What makes a successful superhero game?

Cap is superhero mostly due to his ethics and behaviour. In terms of power, he and Bucky are low level supers, below Spidey. Enhanced human level. Black Widow is peak human level. On their own, Cap/Bucky are specialist mid tier, BW is elite street level, but neither of them, alone, can't go head...

What makes a successful superhero game?

When it comes to supers game, only dedicated system i tried is GURPS. And that system has it's own can of worms. Personally, i like street level supes. Peak human/enhanced human/low level superhuman. For those types of games, i found that WoD works surprisingly well ( with some elbow grease)...

Worlds of Design: The Problem with Space Navies, Part 1

And lasers have one big problem. Distance. Lasers disperse over distance. If you fire normal green laser from Earth to Moon, with beam diameter at source 0,005m, it would have diameter of 100km when it reaches moon. And while energy is same at source and end point, it is so spread out at end, it...

Worlds of Design: The Problem with Space Navies, Part 1

Problem with space combat is that we don't have real world practical experience as a reference point. All our wars have been waged on single planet with atmosphere and gravity. Most of sf space battles are based on real world naval combat, be it old Age of Sail or more modern WW1/2. And most...

    Playing AS monsters?

Played and ran quite a few. First one was back in HS 3.5 days, our party was half dragon, half fiend, bugbear and werewolf. Played in all undead campaigns, all drow campaigns, all lycanthrope campaigns and some with monster mixes. In PF1, i ran "We be goblins" and "We be goblins too", but...

D&D General Disparity in PC levels from same party

It's not binary. There are few categories: It doesn't work by design (4e) It works by design (0-2ed) It can work, but it takes some extra work by DM (5e) It can work, but it takes lot's of extra work by DM (3.X)

D&D General Disparity in PC levels from same party

In some games, power difference works well. D&D isn't one of them ( at least since 3ed). It's mostly due to the fact that with each level characters mostly grow in power vertically. With levels, HP go up, there are stat increases, to hit increase ( less so with 5e, but prof mod increase is there...

When you play in person, where do you play? (Poll)

At someones home. Be it DM's, be it one of the players. We rotate at hosting. Exception was when one of us had newborn/very young kid, then we would play at that persons house. It's practical. I can play and keep eye on kid (if he needs feeding, diaper change etc). It also gives wife free time...

    What's Your Price Limit?

Only problem is, there is no universal way to determine what is fair price. It's completely subjective and depends on ratio of price and value you get out of product. Best way would probably be - price with which both buyer and seller are reasonably satisfied.

Diablo RPG Kickstarter signup is live

I'm not kickstarter fan, but as a Diablo fan, if hardcovers ever hit regular sale, i will buy it, if for no other reason, than as cool art and lore books to enjoy.

Things Said That Stop the Game Dead in its Track

It's Conan with filed off serial numbers. If i remember correctly, they didn't have rights to use Conan in Red Sonia movies, even though it was same studio that did all 3 movies. Kalidor sounds similar and in all other aspects, Arnie just plays Conan. TBH i don't think that movie was bad...

Itch.io is shadowbanning or deleting NSFW and LGBTQ content

Visa/MC are de facto duopoly at this point when it comes to debit cards. Almost all banks use them, they are accepted pretty much everywhere in the world and work with all atm/pos machines. When it comes to card networks, they got it covered. There are alternative payment gateways that automate...

    What's Your Price Limit?

That same bundle is 61.95 euros ( or 99 CAD with current exchange rate). For double PDF is expensive. Especially since most hardcovers are around 40e per book (with free shipping from German Amazon). When it comes to PDFs, i'm ok paying like 50% of hardcover price.

    Running multiple games in parallel?

Usually none. Most of people i played with aren't willing to commit to more than one weekly game. Even when they do, life get's in the way and in the end, they need to choose one game to stick regularly or they alternate no show sessions between campaigns for some time, then just pick one at the...

Itch.io is shadowbanning or deleting NSFW and LGBTQ content

Depends on the seasson. Sure, it's not scalable for high volume products. But, at least in EU, there are payment gateways that are much less prone to outside pressures than Visa/MC (which are card networks/card processors, not pure payment processors), especially ones that are in Netherlands...
