This. From this point of view, IMO, the best TTRPG as a rule system is D&D5e. I prefer long campaigns (Adventure Paths) as Age of Worms. The videogame RPG I enjoyed the most is FFVII, because of the characters, the story, graphics, and the system.

IMO, the rules are like means to an end: a satisfactory roleplaying experience. If you have to change the rules to provide such a satisfactory experience, it's okay. If the rules ever become an obstacle to the enjoyment of the rpg experience, better to change them.

Tomb of Annihilation, modified to be a race to find the Lost City of Omu hidden in the jungle. Just ignore the Curse and the final Tomb (could be played as a final bonus). All other campaigns are, IMO, not optimal for kids. Or... why not? CoS or DiA or W:DH, modified to be light-hearted.

I don't see the problem. Bikini chain mail offers protection AND lets female warriors to expess their femininity. It's an optimal choice.

The best 5e adventures produced so far are LMoP, CoS, ToA, Dia. If you start LMoP up to Lvl 5, you can then easily go on adapting CoS or ToA. Or you can use DiA from Lvl 1.
