What's a good high defense, low offense monster around cr 7

You could also use a CR 1-5 creature and add a few levels of cleric (focusing on defensive spells and wearing a lot of armor)

    Instrumentals Soundtracks for SciFi games?

Ozric Tentacles produces some spacy instrumentals. I've got links to several of their better albums on my 1948 merchandise page.

    Good low-mid level monsters?

The Bane Ledger and the Bane Ledger II both contain low and mid-level monsters, many with unique abilities.

What do publishers think of fan-posted errata/reworks?

I disagree. revising an older product can breath new life into it. Remember that we are dealing with a very small segment of the RPG market. If you put out a title and it sells 200 copies in the first year, then you revise it an re-release it, you'll see another surge in sales, since there are...

    Drinking at the Game Table?

We we allow it. why? Because we are all adults. However, we don't drink often, usually once in a while one or two players will bring some beer, but just as often they don't.

I'm so totally chillin' right now. How about you?

I'm doing the same thing I do every day... trying to take over the world! :) Unfortunately my keyboard has been shorting out on me lately, so its holding me back. A beer sounds good. Think I'll get one myself... :D

    Would D&D be easier if...

Well, I think if you were going to make a simpler version of the rule set, it should still be reasonably similar to the core rules, as the goal of making a simple rule set is to get people used to the basics, so they can "graduate" to the "advanced" system. So, I think an easier version would...

    Skill DC descriptions

We usually don't adhere strictly to those descriptors. I usually try to explain things from the character's point of view.

On The Origin of D&D Words

Back when I started publishing, I wanted to use the word Libram for a book title, but I likewise couldn't find any info on it. So I wrote to Gary Gygax, and to some language expert at Websters. Gary said it was a variant of a Latin word (IIRC), but since it was mostly a made up word, there...

    Character Aging modifiers for children?

Back in 2e, my group came up with some house rules for stats for kids when one of the players wanted to play a child. IIRC, we penalized his Str. and his Wis. Maybe one other stat, too, but I'm not sure. Depending on the age, -2 or -4 would be about right, I think.

    Movies That Never Get Old

There are quite a few, but the ones that come to mind fiirst are: Conan the barbarian Superman Pulp fiction (you read the Bible, Brad?) the Beast Master Princess Bride Legend Braveheart Excaliber U-Turn Star wars (episodes 4-6) Indiana Jones (any movie) Spiderman (1&2) Arsinic and Old...

    Sound of Thunder

Wow. THat's a real lame idea. I suppose it could work as a dramatic device (drama builds as you know that humans are about to be changed). But really, it flies in the face of logic. Its too bad the movie sucks so. I really liked the story, and Bradbury is one of my all time favorite writers...

D&D Magic -- how would you fix it?

I don't really mind the fire and forget method, but I have made thematic changes to the schools in various campaigns. I had a homebrew several years ago with more than 16 different schools of magic like Time, Space, Force, Death, etc, instead of the standard 8 in the PHB. I've also split them...

Favorite Levels of Play and then some Advice

I voted 6th-10th, but really I'd say I like gaming anywhere between 3rd and 12th, which is a wider range than in previous editions. Under 1e and 2e, I felt the sweet spot was 6th-9th. Now, I find 3rd-12th are the easiest and most fun levels to play in, but I really don't mind starting as low as...

Let's reflect for a moment on how important this site is

I like reading over the rules discussions, they help keep me on my toes. I also like the sci-fi related news that is on the home page, I get a lot of my info about upcoming movies from that.
