5E: Converting Monsters from White Dwarf Magazine for Fifth Edition

My initial draft had it as weaker than a wererat as that was what I made it back in AD&D - this version seems more like a controller in combat, so can still have low hit dice maybe. I switched it to a scimitar as that was what I had 40 years ago somewhere. And the wereserpent uses that as well.

Yes - shift allowing allies to use their Reaction to move a certain distance sounds good. I like the idea of making it a better grapple-dragger, hence: Serpentine Strength. The weresnake can drag or carry the grappled creature with it at normal speed; speed only halved if the creature is one...

I like the idea of rapier/dagger as two weapon-attack (1 each + bonus dagger)

BTW - dndbeyond doesn't let me do statblock groups so have to do all dragon warriors as separate entities. Unfortunately there is no "parent" statblock to place descprition so have to put description in each statblock

I was musing on my own mortality and thinking I'd like to do the weresnake. Also noticed that there was a wereserpent in 3e and 4e. Have looked at the 4e statblock and pondering making some critter that incorporates features of all with a bit of 4e fun in combat

I've gone with Wings #2 as adds lore that it is a Gift of Pazuzu Re weapons, how about making a unique Long Dirk that is a well balanced long dagger that does 1d6+2 damage but can be thrown to 20/60 ft as well?

It has 3 cantrips that can do damage at range so not worried about a missile weapon as such. All give it an eldritch flavour.

ok, gone with #2. Also reworded languiages to "Abyssal plus any one language (usually Common)". Deleted religion as a skill. Re weapons, I was thinking of something "light" like a rapier maybe.

"Amiraspian griffon rider mystics are strange looking figures" - comes over as subjective. "Strange" as opposed to perfectly normal-looking amiraspians? I'd just say, "Amiraspian griffon rider mystics dress/wear/are garbed in feathers and fur instead of the mail armor worn by regular griffon...

I based them on a 4th level thrall from that dragon issue. Have ditched dark Devotion for an Avian Affinity. ok changed spellcasting to charisma-base as makes more sense. changed a cantrip. Am imagining them as a mini-boss for low levels (i.e. bossing a bunch of aarakocra or kenku) or group...
