D&D 5E (2014) Water Walk on the Elemental Plane of Water

Here's an idea: what if the surface described is just the interior of one of many absolutely massive bubbles?

D&D General what is the unifying theme of gnomes?

I kind of wanted to say this earlier myself but was afraid it would come across wrong. Still, I think it's true for me, too, even though of course not all gnomes are roleplayed this way.

D&D General what is the unifying theme of gnomes?

I got into D&D just as both Pathfinder and 4E were starting up, and since both Pathfinder and 4E went the route of gnomes being related to fey I've always had that as my conception for them (and therefore don't particularly care for rock gnomes, which are generally portrayed as more inventive...

D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits and damage - What do you do?

I tried this houserule in a campaign and found out really quickly that an Oath of Vengeance Paladin can deal an absolutely absurd amount of damage with it.

D&D 5E (2014) Chris Perkins and Todd Kenreck Talk About Mind Flayers

I hope they do something to give the D&D Demogorgon a higher profile. As of now the Stranger Things creature named for him is what the general public (and DALL-E) thinks of when they hear the name.

D&D 5E (2014) Chris Perkins and Todd Kenreck Talk About Mind Flayers

Other posters mentioned the Spelljammer lore, so I'll just add that the 4E Underdark book briefly described a fallen mindflayer civilization called Nihilath that, during the course of its history, drove three separate races to extinction through overexploitation. IIRC they also began cultivating...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Survivor - Deities (Part X: Dawn War Deities)

Yeah, that was the idea. IIRC one 4E publication said something along the lines of "though he created the dwarves and is often depicted as one, Moradin is a god, not a dwarf". There were also occasional references to atypical representations of gods, such as a minotaur version of Bahamut.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Survivor - Deities (Part X: Dawn War Deities)

Ioun is a goddess, but she assumes a humanoid form like a lot of others do. Tharizdun is just really bizarre and doesn't take a definite shape. Here's another image from the same book with Pelor looking at another form Tharizdun has taken:

For those curious, this is how Erathis, Melora, Ioun, and Tharizdun are represented in official Critical Role art (since none of them were visually represented in 4E materials):

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Survivor - Deities (Part X: Dawn War Deities)

Looking into that, the final boss was a "Herald of Zehir". Maybe that's something along the lines of an aspect? Descriptions of Zehir from Critical Role products describe him thusly: Personally, I got this Yig minature to use if I ever want to represent him. Its got multiple arms, which both...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Survivor - Deities (Part X: Dawn War Deities)

One of the weirdest details to me is that, of the 4E original deities, only the Raven Queen and Torog were ever visually depicted in that edition. The Critical Role equivalents of Erathis, Ioun, and Melora are depicted in Tal'dorei Campaign Setting Reborn, but still nothing for Avandra and Zehir.
