Crit and death saves mean automatic ability score damage - Too gritty?

Doesnt this nerf the heck out of every class that is a primary spellcaster?

The Expanse RPG by Green Ronan

Unique? Decent story, and kind of cool that the books came from a group of guys who were playing a RPG. The books are a portion at least of their campaign (dont know what system they used). The books do a fairly decent job of sticking with what at least appears to be scientifically accurate...

The Expanse RPG by Green Ronan

So who is looking forward to this and who plans to actually run a campaign? Currently I am almost through the third book and I am definitely looking forward to the games release at Gen Con. I have several ideas floating through my head for campaigns from military special ops to independent...

Crit and death saves mean automatic ability score damage - Too gritty?

Yes Hp is your ability to stay in a fight, but it also somehow represents being hit by the enemy in some fashion. Two 10th level fighters beat each other with longswords until one goes unconcious and (barring lucky rolls) the other is one or two hits from going unconscious. They each have a...

Crit and death saves mean automatic ability score damage - Too gritty?

Another item I like once mentioned by another person here on EN was not rolling death saves at all. Basically a player that was put to zero marked every round they were at zero until someone came to save them or combat ended. When either event happened then the player rolled once for each round...

Crit and death saves mean automatic ability score damage - Too gritty?

He was fighting the rest of the party. I was fighting a balor, I went unconscious because he reduced me to zero hitpoints. Because he was fighting a Balor? We got a long rest in a Magnificent Mansion, which in no way suggests we were no longer in danger the next day.

    Alternate Resting option

This would also help to alleviate one more item I hate which is the teenage archmage. Seriously, Tomas the young dumb farmboy who always wanted to be a wizard leaves town on Tuesday with his childhood friends. They survive their first encounter with two kobolds and a carrion crawler, after that...

[5e] Newbie DM Questions about Information Given

    1. You get to decide this. The dwarf had never seen one before, if he was also terrified by the attack then his description will be horrible. Now if the creatures are fairly common to the area in your campaign then bad description or not a Nature roll of 16 should mean the party should have a...

Crit and death saves mean automatic ability score damage - Too gritty?

Possibly, but I find that the 5 minute work day is as much a function of having players who shoot their load at every battle or lots of players running character who regain a lot at every short rest like warlocks and monks. Both of you are right it can change the feel of combat, it makes it...

Crit and death saves mean automatic ability score damage - Too gritty?

One aspect of 5E I hate is full hitpoints after a long rest. My 15th level fighter is beaten down by a Balor, he is unconcious with two failed death saves when a party healer hits him just enough to bring him to 1 hp. No more healing is available so I go to bed at 1 hp. Assuming no one attacks...

    Alternate Resting option

To me resting in itself is not the problem. The problem is more of letting players rest anytime they feel like it which makes classes like the warlock that can easily blow their load in one battle feel overpowered while making classes like the fighter who can keep going battle after battle feel...

WotC: Stop sitting on Rich Burlew's setting (you own the rights!) - publish it for 5E too!

I did not remember that they were paid, in that case this is a non-point.

WotC: Stop sitting on Rich Burlew's setting (you own the rights!) - publish it for 5E too!

The contest may say they hold the rights but since the author for #2 and #3 are getting nothing for their effort I am thinking they would win if they wanted to take WOTC to court. Simple contact law says an agreement is not binding of both sides do not benefit in some manner. Right now #2 and #3...

    How do you pronounce "Drow"?

So drow rhyming with "cow" sounds weak and frail but drow rhyming with "hoe" sounds powerful? ;-) I always pronounced it the first way, no idea why I chose that method the first time I said the word out loud. In reality both are wrong anyway, the proper way to pronounce Drow rhymes with "Mary...

Fire Mountain Games - 5 years since funding - communication thread

There is no way Kickstarter could manage and demand performance from every person who uses their service. Their company would have to be much larger and would have to require a percentage of funds collected to cover it's operations that everyone would complain was too high. The guy committed...

D&D Has the Biggest Playerbase, So Why is it the Hardest for 3rd Party to Market Too?

I am confused. What other games exist out there that have any sort of 3rd party material released for them?

Baalzebul is back to normal (And other new lore discoveries.)

Exactly, they are professionally done suggestion boxes, nothing more. Take what you want, have no regrets. Or something like that as the quote goes.

Baalzebul is back to normal (And other new lore discoveries.)

ZZzzzzZZZzzzZZZ It is fluff, nothing more. It is fictional facts written about a fictional creature that does nothing. It does not change how a combat round is run, it does not change how damage happens. It changes the physical appearance of a creature that less than 1% of players care about...

Meh, not sure why anyone ever gets so worked up over fluff. Like it? Then use it. Dont like it? Then dont use it.

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

No. A person claiming to be the accused posted admitting to some. Was it him? Maybe it was maybe it was not. This is the internet. Can you prove it was really him? Maybe you can. Maybe he posted, admitted to his actions, and we know for certain that it was really him. That would make him the...
